She also joked that if she had been born with one, “it would be over.”
What did Lauren Norris say about Australian accents?
In the video, Norris said, “One thing I’m envious of is people with Australian accents.” She added: “If I was born with an Australian accent…it would be over.”
She called it “the cutest little accent any girl could have, anyone could have” and said hearing a woman speak with an Australian accent made her “automatically obsessed.” Norris also floated finding a dialect coach, though she framed it as a possibility rather than a plan or recommendation. These remarks were reported by PerthNow.
Why did the clip attract attention?
Norris’s comments were a personal expression of admiration, not evidence that Americans generally prefer Australian accents. PerthNow reported that the clip had 68.9K views when its story was published on 22 February 2024; that is a publication-time figure, not a verified current view count.

PerthNow also quoted commenters praising the accent, while others pointed out that Australian speech varies, including references to Queensland and a “bogan” voice. Those comments illustrate reactions to the clip; they are not a technical classification of Australian accents.

There is no single uniform Australian accent for a learner to copy. Speakers differ by region and social background, so imitating one voice as if it represented everyone can lead to a caricature.
For context, PerthNow quoted Victorian dialect coach Leith Macpherson, attributing the remark to a 2018 ABC interview: “It is really challenging, because it’s similar to a lot of different accents, it has components of a lot of different accents, so I think that’s where people get derailed.” The comment offers one coach’s explanation for why attempts to reproduce the accent can go off course.
