As of October 7, 2026, two projects covered here have been released, two have official 2027 dates, and three films announced in 2023 have no current status confirmed by the official sources cited below. That makes “alive or dead” too simple: a past release, a dated future release, an older announcement, and a confirmed cancellation are different things. This is a guide to the projects supported by the cited StarWars.com announcements—not a complete ledger of every Star Wars project ever announced.
Which Star Wars projects are released or officially dated?
The strongest current signals are a release that has already happened or an official release date. The table separates those from projects whose status is less clear.

What is the status of the three films announced in 2023?
Lucasfilm announced three films at Star Wars Celebration Europe on April 7, 2023. The announcement establishes what each film was described as being about at that time. It does not, by itself, confirm that the projects remain in active development in October 2026.

| Announced project | Announced premise | Current status in the cited official sources |
|---|---|---|
| James Mangold film | A story set at the dawn of the Jedi. | Announced; current status not confirmed in the sources cited here. |
| Dave Filoni film | A New Republic story intended to close out interconnected stories from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series. | Announced; current status not confirmed in the sources cited here. |
| Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy film | A story set after The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. | Announced; current status not confirmed in the sources cited here. |
These premises come from Lucasfilm’s April 7, 2023 announcement of three new films. Lucasfilm’s January 15, 2026 leadership announcement names The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter as films being produced by Kathleen Kennedy. That confirms those two titles in her production slate at the time; it does not resolve the status of the three earlier announcements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does “not confirmed” mean a project is canceled?
No. “Announced; current status not confirmed” means the cited official material establishes an earlier announcement but does not settle what is happening with the project now. An official page that does not list a project is not proof that Lucasfilm canceled it. The StarWars.com film listings and series listings are useful for current confirmed titles, but they are not a full historical alive-or-dead ledger.

Use “canceled” or “dead” only when Lucasfilm or a responsible creator or studio representative has confirmed cancellation. The cited sources do not provide that confirmation for the three 2023 films. Their status should therefore remain unconfirmed here—not be upgraded to active, and not be mislabeled dead.

How to read a Star Wars project-status update
- Released: The official source identifies a past release or says the project is now available, as with The Mandalorian and Grogu and The Ninth Jedi.
- Dated upcoming: An official source gives a future date, as with Starfighter and Ahsoka Season 2.
- Announced; current status not confirmed: An official announcement gives a premise, but the cited material does not establish whether the project is still moving forward, as with the three 2023 films.
- Canceled: Reserve this label for a direct confirmation from Lucasfilm or a clearly attributed statement from a responsible creator or studio representative.
