Yes—you can watch movies on Spirit Airlines, but plan to use your own phone, tablet, or laptop. Spirit promotes onboard Wi-Fi for streaming on personal devices rather than a guaranteed fleet-wide seatback-screen system. The most dependable method is downloading films before departure; on a Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft, the paid Streaming plan adds online flexibility.
Does Spirit Airlines have movies or seatback entertainment?
Spirit’s current entertainment model is primarily bring-your-own-device viewing. Its official guidance describes streaming shows and movies on a passenger’s phone, tablet, or laptop through onboard Wi-Fi. See Spirit’s Wi-Fi support guidance.
That is different from a seatback entertainment system, where a screen is installed in front of you. The official material reviewed does not establish a definitive, fleet-wide statement that every Spirit aircraft has—or never has—seatback screens. Therefore, do not book a Spirit flight expecting a guaranteed seatback movie library. Bring a device and offline content instead.
- Personal-device entertainment: You watch on your own phone, tablet, or laptop.

The most reliable option: download movies before departure
Offline downloads avoid Wi-Fi charges, congestion, outages, and aircraft-availability surprises. Use a supported streaming app, a purchased or rented digital film, or a personal video file.

- Choose at least two films or several episodes, preferably from two different services.
- Complete each download while you still have a reliable internet connection.
- Switch the device to Airplane Mode and play every title from start to finish, or at least far enough to confirm it opens offline.
- Check that you remain signed in and that the download has not expired. Some services require an occasional online check, and a title’s download rights can vary by plan, country, device, or account status.
- Charge the device and a carry-on power bank before leaving home.
A film that merely appears in an app but has not finished downloading may not work after the device goes offline.
How to connect to Spirit Wi-Fi for online movies
Spirit’s published connection path is:
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Manually turn Wi-Fi back on in the device settings.
- Select the SpiritWiFi network.
- Open a browser and enter SpiritWiFi.com.
- Choose a plan or enter an eligible voucher or benefit.
- Open your streaming service or other movie source.
Spirit identifies Thales as its third-party connectivity provider; applicable terms are listed in its Wi-Fi third-party information.
Which Spirit Wi-Fi plan is needed for a movie?

Spirit says Streaming is 20 times faster than Browsing and is designed for video streaming. That describes the plan’s intended capability, not a guarantee that every title or service will play continuously.

Spirit First guests receive Streaming Wi-Fi as part of the booking, and Free Spirit Gold members receive complimentary Streaming Wi-Fi. Is Wi-Fi available on every Spirit flight?
No universal guarantee applies. Spirit refers to Wi-Fi-enabled planes and tells passengers to look for a Wi-Fi symbol during booking. Check your reservation, the aircraft information shown at purchase, and the onboard portal after boarding. The Spirit onboard menu also uses the Wi-Fi-enabled-plane qualification.
Spirit describes SES-17 coverage across the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean, but geographic coverage does not guarantee that a particular aircraft has working equipment or that service will be available on your flight. Keep downloaded entertainment as your fallback.
Can Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, or other services work?
Spirit advertises Streaming Wi-Fi as suitable for shows and movies, so web-based streaming may work. It is not a promise that Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, or any other specific platform will work on every route, device, title, or flight. Congestion, technical faults, service restrictions, and the app’s own requirements can affect playback.

Online access also requires an active subscription where applicable. Offline access is separate: a service must allow that title to be downloaded on your plan and device, and the download must remain valid in your region. Test the service in Airplane Mode before traveling rather than discovering a restriction after takeoff.
Device, headphone, and cabin-use rules
Phones
A phone is the easiest backup and usually uses less battery than a larger screen. Reduce brightness and disable unnecessary background activity.
Tablets
A tablet generally offers the best balance of movie-sized display and portability. It must still be secured or stowed whenever the crew requires it.
Laptops
A laptop provides a large screen but is less convenient in a tight seat. Spirit classifies portable devices weighing two pounds or more, including full-size laptops, as large devices that must be turned off and stowed during taxi, takeoff, and landing until a flight attendant authorizes use above 10,000 feet.

Spirit’s portable-electronics guidance says devices under two pounds, including phones, tablets, and e-readers, may be used during all phases when properly secured. Cellular service must remain disabled in Airplane Mode from door closure until arrival, subject to crew directions. International operations can impose stricter restrictions. Headphones or earbuds are required for audible content, and cables must not interfere with evacuation. Wired earbuds are the most dependable backup. Bluetooth earbuds may be usable when permitted by the device and crew, but do not assume they are allowed in every phase or on every route.
What if the Wi-Fi portal will not load?
- Confirm Airplane Mode is on and Wi-Fi is manually enabled.
- Disconnect from other remembered networks and select SpiritWiFi again.
- Open a fresh browser tab and type SpiritWiFi.com manually.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or private relay that may block captive-portal redirection.
- Close and reopen the browser, then toggle Wi-Fi off and on.
- Ask a flight attendant whether the aircraft has active Wi-Fi.
- If it still fails, use your downloaded movie rather than repeatedly attempting payment.
If payment appears to have gone through but access does not activate, save the receipt or confirmation before seeking support. Avoid buying the plan again immediately.

- Close other high-bandwidth apps and stop automatic photo or cloud backups.

Spirit does not publish a universal resolution or guaranteed bandwidth for every flight, so treat online playback as a convenience rather than your only plan.

Power, baggage, and a compact movie kit
The reviewed official sources do not verify universal seat outlets or USB ports. Start fully charged and carry a power bank in your carry-on; treat onboard charging as a bonus. A Spirit personal item must fit within 18 × 14 × 8 inches, including handles and wheels, according to Spirit’s baggage guidance.
