Unsinkable: Titanic Untold is a 2024 historical drama about the aftermath of the Titanic disaster and the U.S. Senate investigation that followed—not a documentary. Angel lists April 12, 2026 as the film’s release date and says streaming on Angel began April 15, 2026. Viewing availability varies by territory and platform, so check the current local listing.
What is Unsinkable: Titanic Untold about?
The film dramatizes the aftermath of the sinking, centering on Senator William Alden Smith’s investigation and journalist Alaine Ricard, with flashbacks to the disaster. Its official descriptions frame the story around accountability, political pressure, and the Senate inquiry. Those descriptions establish the film’s premise, not the historical accuracy of each scene.
Hawk Hill Pictures classifies it as a drama and history title and lists a 100-minute runtime. The production page names Karen Allen, Cotter Smith, Fiona Dourif, and Jayne Wisener among the principal cast; Cody Hartman directed, and Brian Hartman produced and shares screenplay credit with Cody Hartman. Hawk Hill Pictures’ film page and the official film site provide the film’s production and premise details.
When was it released?
Angel gives two dates in different contexts: its film page lists April 12, 2026 as the release date, while its FAQ says streaming on Angel began April 15, 2026. These should not be treated as the same release event. See Angel’s film listing and FAQ for its current information.

What was the real Senate investigation?
The film’s historical frame is a real inquiry. The U.S. Senate says a special subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee, chaired by Senator William A. Smith of Michigan, investigated the disaster. Hearings began April 19, 1912; the Senate account says the proceedings concluded May 28, when Smith visited Titanic’s sister ship Olympic to interview crew.
Rank #2
The Senate reference identifies issues examined by the inquiry, including ice warnings, the number of lifeboats, Titanic’s speed, responses to distress calls, and how passengers were treated by class. It reports that 82 witnesses testified. The transcripts are Senate Document 726 of the 62nd Congress, 2nd session, and run to more than 1,100 pages, according to the Senate’s historical reference and transcript bibliography.
How closely does the film follow the historical record?
The existence and broad subject of the Senate inquiry are documented; that does not verify the film’s scene-by-scene accuracy. The available official descriptions and Senate reference do not establish the historical basis for Alaine Ricard, specific dialogue, or claims of conspiracy or political interference. Treat the movie as a dramatization unless a particular scene is checked against the hearing record.

For a primary-source comparison, the Senate identifies a 1998 Pocket Books paperback reprint titled The Titanic Disaster Hearings: The Official Transcripts of the 1912 Senate Investigation. The Senate reference confirms that the reprint was published, but not whether it is currently in stock. Its bibliography and hearing information are available from the U.S. Senate.
