Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan were famous rivals in the ring, but their real relationship was more complicated than a wrestling storyline. Their 1990 WrestleMania VI match was staged; later accounts describe genuine professional friction over status, treatment and compensation. The two publicly made amends during WWE Hall of Fame week in 2014, shortly before Warrior’s death, but the record does not establish that they became close friends afterward.

It helps to separate wrestling’s performance from the relationship behind it. Their championship match and later bouts were part of scripted wrestling; the fact that the rivalry felt personal to viewers does not, on its own, prove a private feud. Separate reporting describes disagreements about professional standing and compensation. WWE’s career account and Biography.com’s account of the rivalry help distinguish those threads.
What happened at WrestleMania VI?
On April 1, 1990, Warrior defeated Hogan to win the WWF Championship at WrestleMania VI. WWE describes the victory as one of Warrior’s defining career moments. The match was a major story beat: Hogan, the promotion’s established star, lost the title to Warrior in a high-profile contest.

Warrior later recalled that their tour schedules left them about 45 minutes to go over the match before the event. That is his retrospective estimate, not an independently verified measurement of their preparation time. His recollection also illustrates how the match could be choreographed while still carrying real professional stakes for both performers. Why did Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan have heat?
Later accounts connect their tensions to disagreements about status, treatment and pay, rather than to one clearly established personal grievance. Biography.com reports that Warrior sought treatment on a par with Hogan and recounts a dispute involving Warrior and WWE. That reporting gives context for the friction, but it does not establish every detail of the men’s private relationship or show that either account explains it completely.

Biography.com quotes a letter attributed to Warrior in which he claimed he had given up more than $1 million in compensation and asked for $550,000 to appear at SummerSlam. Those are Warrior’s claims as presented in a secondary account, not independently verified pay figures. They should not be treated as an audited comparison of the two wrestlers’ earnings.
How did their rivalry continue in WCW?
In 1998, Warrior returned to wrestling and renewed his rivalry with Hogan in WCW. WWE’s account says Warrior stepped away from the ring that year; Biography.com reports that the short-lived revival ended with Warrior losing to Hogan in October. The WCW match brought their on-screen rivalry back, but it does not by itself reveal the state of their personal relationship.

Did Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior make up?
They publicly reconciled during WrestleMania 30 week in 2014, when Warrior returned to WWE after an absence the company described as 18 years and was inducted into its Hall of Fame. That figure refers to the gap in WWE appearances or relationship, not a precise measure of all contact between the men.
Before Warrior’s return, Hogan said he hoped to meet him, offer an apology and shake his hand. “I would love to shake his hand, look him in the eye and say, ‘Brother, nothing but love for you. Whatever I did, I apologize for it,’” Hogan told WWE. The interview records Hogan’s intention before the reunion, rather than independently verifying what was said in private. Biography.com reports that the two embraced and quotes Hogan describing a conversation, forgiveness, a hug and a handshake. Hogan later posted, “RIP WARRIOR. only love. HH.” Warrior died days after the Hall of Fame events. The reunion is evidence of a public making of peace; it is not evidence of a sustained friendship afterward. The clearest account is a sequence of public events: a landmark 1990 match, later reported professional disputes, a 1998 WCW rematch and a public reconciliation in 2014. The available sources offer participant recollections and secondary reporting, not a complete record of every private exchange. Triple H’s description of “bad blood on both sides” concerned Warrior’s relationship with WWE broadly, not solely his relationship with Hogan. Triple H’s WWE introduction provides that wider context.

So, if “friends” means a close, enduring relationship, the public record does not establish that. If the question is whether they moved past their conflict, their 2014 reconciliation supports that conclusion—while leaving the private details, and what their relationship might have become, unknown.
