On January 21, 2026, Ubisoft announced a company-wide reset: six games were discontinued, seven were given more development time, and the publisher set out a new structure built around five Creative Houses. The announcement named only one cancelled game—the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. Ubisoft also identified two studio closures, while describing changes at three other locations as restructurings rather than closures.
Which Ubisoft games were cancelled?
Ubisoft said it discontinued six games after reviewing its content pipeline against stricter quality standards and more selective portfolio priorities. The only title it identified was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The company described the other five as one mobile game and four unannounced projects, three of which were new intellectual properties. It did not name those five projects in its January 21 announcement.
That means lists of other supposedly cancelled Ubisoft games should not be treated as confirmed unless Ubisoft identifies them. The announcement gives categories, not titles, for the remaining projects.
Did Ubisoft cancel the Prince of Persia remake?
Yes. Ubisoft named the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as one of the six discontinued games. The company did not say that the Prince of Persia franchise itself was cancelled; it assigned the brand to Creative House 4 under the new structure.

Which Ubisoft games were delayed?
Ubisoft said seven games had been given additional development time, but did not identify them. It disclosed that one unannounced game originally planned for fiscal year 2026 had moved to fiscal year 2027. Those fiscal-year labels refer to Ubisoft’s reporting calendar; the company did not provide the title or a specific release date. Contemporary coverage by Video Games Chronicle likewise reported that the seven games were not named.
A delay is not the same as a cancellation: Ubisoft described these seven projects as receiving more development time, not as discontinued.

Which Ubisoft studios are closing?
Ubisoft said its Halifax mobile studio had closed earlier in January 2026 and that its Stockholm studio was closing. It separately cited restructuring at Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive. The company did not describe those three restructurings as full studio closures, so they should not be counted as additional confirmed closures.
The announcement did not establish a final number of jobs affected. VGC reported that Ubisoft did not directly comment on the number of layoffs expected from the restructuring. A confirmed headcount impact should therefore not be inferred from the studio and organizational announcements alone.

What are Ubisoft’s five Creative Houses?
The new operating model groups game development and publishing responsibilities into five specialized Creative Houses. Ubisoft said each would focus on particular genres and brands and carry financial responsibility for its portfolio. Its announcement described the groupings as follows:
| Creative House | Focus described by Ubisoft | Examples of assigned brands |
|---|---|---|
| Vantage Studios | Major established brands | Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six |
| Creative House 2 | Competitive and cooperative shooters | The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell |
| Creative House 3 | Selected live experiences | Specific brands not stated in the announcement |
| Creative House 4 | Immersive fantasy and narrative-driven universes | Prince of Persia |
| Creative House 5 | Casual and family-friendly games | Specific brands not stated in the announcement |
Alongside the houses, Ubisoft described a Creative Network that would provide development resources. Core Services would supply shared technology, production capabilities and operational services. The company said the new organization would start operating in early April 2026; its January announcement set out that planned start date, rather than reporting a later implementation update.

Why is Ubisoft restructuring?
Ubisoft attributed the reset to a more selective market for AAA games, tougher competition in shooters, higher development costs and greater difficulty creating successful brands. CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot summarized the company’s view: “On the one hand, the AAA industry has become persistently more selective and competitive with rising development costs and greater challenges in creating brands. On the other hand, exceptional AAA games, when successful, have more financial potential than ever.”
That is Ubisoft’s stated rationale, not independent proof that any single market pressure caused the cancellations or studio decisions. The company said the new model was intended to bring decisions closer to development, sharpen focus and help its teams adapt to player expectations. It also said it had conducted a thorough review of its content pipeline over December 2025 and January 2026.

The plan involves several trade-offs rather than a guaranteed outcome. Concentrating investment on established brands may focus resources, while the cancellation of three new IP projects also reduces part of the announced slate for creating new franchises. Giving projects more development time may support Ubisoft’s quality aims, but it also changes the release cadence. The Creative Houses are meant to place more portfolio responsibility within specialized groups, while the Creative Network and Core Services preserve shared resources. Ubisoft’s announcement describes these intended mechanisms; it does not demonstrate their results.
What did Ubisoft forecast financially?
Ubisoft presented the following figures in its January 21, 2026 release. They are company expectations, targets or projections as labeled—not verified final results.
| Figure | What Ubisoft said it represented |
|---|---|
| At least €100 million | Fixed-cost savings versus FY2024–25 that Ubisoft expected to achieve by March 2026, one year ahead of its initial FY2026–27 target. |
| Additional €200 million | Further fixed-cost reduction targeted over two years. |
| Around €500 million | Total fixed-cost reduction Ubisoft said it was targeting since FY2022–23. |
| Approximately €1.25 billion | Fixed costs on a run-rate basis projected by March 2028, compared with €1.75 billion in FY2022–23. |
| Around €1.5 billion net bookings and around negative €1 billion non-IFRS EBIT | Ubisoft’s FY2025–26 projections in the January announcement, not final reported results. |
| Around €650 million | One-off accelerated depreciation Ubisoft said was associated with transformation-related decisions. |
The savings targets describe planned cost reductions; they should not be read as savings already realized. The same reset was expected to have a substantial near-term accounting impact, reflected in the company’s projected depreciation figure and FY2025–26 outlook.
