What did Ubisoft actually confirm in 2024?
In a statement reported by Kotaku on October 23, 2024, Ubisoft said Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan had “recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand.” The company added that the project was “still in its early stages” and that it would share more details later. Kotaku’s report reproduced the statement.

That wording confirms early work on the brand, not a finished production plan. Ubisoft did not announce a release window, platforms, budget, or confirmed roster for this unspecified project. Nor did it say that the work was definitively a remake of the 1995 game.
Is Ubisoft remaking the original Rayman?
That was the reported framing, not the full scope Ubisoft confirmed. Kotaku attributed the remake description and “Project Steambot” codename to prior reporting by Insider Gaming. GameSpot likewise distinguished the reported remake from Ubisoft’s narrower confirmation of exploration on the Rayman brand. GameSpot’s October 24, 2024 coverage quotes the company’s statement.

So the careful answer is: a Rayman project was being explored, and reporting described it as a remake, but Ubisoft’s quoted confirmation did not establish that it was a remake of the original, that it had entered full production, or when it might be released.
Is Michel Ancel involved?
Ubisoft said Michel Ancel, creator of the Rayman brand, was being consulted “to ensure consistency within the universe.” The statement did not describe him as director, lead developer, or day-to-day project head, and the reporting did not clarify the precise scope of his role.

Ubisoft has since announced Rayman Legends Retold and listed Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition. These are separate, more specifically described releases; available announcements do not say either is the 2024 exploration project.

Ubisoft announced Legends Retold on June 2, 2026. Its announcement described a soundtrack featuring original themes and new compositions by Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope. Brand Producer Loïc Gounon said the project was intended to revisit the game for a new generation while preserving what fans value and expanding its lore and world logic. Ubisoft’s announcement listed a suggested standard-edition price of $/€39.99; that is announced guidance, not a verified current price in every market.

The same announcement described a retail-only Launch Edition containing the base game, Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, a printed Glade of Dreams map, three lithographs, and a slipcase. Its digital-only Deluxe Edition was described as adding Origins Enhanced Edition, a Retro Pack, and an art gallery to the base game.
Ubisoft’s 30th Anniversary Edition page lists the February 13, 2026 date, platforms, five versions of the original, “120+” extra levels, and an interactive documentary.
