CISAC’s 2023 account describes Paulo Sérgio Valle as the author of more than 1,000 compositions, but it does not document an interview in which he discusses them. What it does establish is the context behind UBC’s 80th-anniversary celebrations: a 2023 book about authors’ rights and the role of Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
What is known about Valle’s 1,000 compositions?
A CISAC report published on 15 February 2023 describes Paulo Sérgio Valle as UBC’s president and “author of more than 1,000 compositions.” That is a description reported by CISAC, not a tally independently verified in the report. The report does not identify the compositions or explain how Valle wrote them.
It also does not contain or summarize an interview matching the title’s suggestion. No interview date, interviewer, transcript, or account by Valle of particular songs is established by this source. The report does reproduce a quotation from Valle’s preface to the anniversary book, which should not be mistaken for an interview answer.
What was UBC’s 80th anniversary?
The Brazilian music-rights society UBC was founded in 1942, so its 80th anniversary fell in 2022. As part of the anniversary celebrations, UBC and Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice launched a book in Brasília on 7 February 2023. CISAC reported the event later that month.

The book, The author exists. Author’s Rights applied by the STJ during the 80 years of UBC, was coordinated by Sydney Sanches and Karina Callai and contains more than ten articles on authors’ rights. According to CISAC’s launch report, proceeds were to be donated to the Zeca Pagodinho Institute.
Why the anniversary book focused on authors’ rights
The publication connects UBC’s history with STJ decisions and the protection of rightsholders, including in the digital environment. Sydney Sanches, identified in the report as a UBC attorney and a book coordinator, said the project aimed to recover the STJ’s historical role in defending rightsholders and applying the law to technological change.

Valle wrote the book’s preface. CISAC reproduced this sentence from it: “In some way, legislators and judges, throughout history, have demonstrated that they have a ‘musical ear’ and sensitivity to listen to the need to protect the artistic work and its author; hence the Author’s Law.” This is Valle’s published preface language, not a statement from the unverified interview.

CISAC describes UBC as a creator-run, non-profit society focused on rightsholder interests, distributing income from music use, and cultural development. The same 2023 report says UBC represented more than 50,000 members at the time; that figure is a dated membership count, not a current total.

The report offers useful context about UBC, the anniversary book, and Valle’s role in it, but it cannot answer what Valle may have said in a separate interview about his catalog. Claims about named works, his composing process, or his own view of the 1,000-composition figure would require that interview or another direct source.
