Tyne-James Organ released his second album, The Other Side, on May 16, 2025. The 12-track record draws on family, grief, relationships and the contrast between happiness and hurt. Organ has said he wanted its personal songs to help open conversation about mental health—not to offer a clinical account, but to make room for experiences people may find difficult to discuss.
Why Organ wanted to talk about mental health
In a May 16, 2025 report, PerthNow quoted Organ describing mental health as a subject that can be “a very taboo kind of topic.” He said the conversation was important and that there was not enough discussion of its seriousness. His starting point as a songwriter was equally direct: “What’s the point of making music that’s not real?”
That candour shapes the album’s subject matter, but Organ’s disclosures remain his own account. He told The Note that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2024 and described that period as intense. He credited his mother, partner, sister and work team with supporting him, and said the album was postponed by a year. Those details explain the circumstances he described around making the record; they should not be read as general medical advice or a template for someone else’s experience.
What the album’s title means
Organ told PerthNow that the songs connect through the idea of “the other side”—which can mean life or death, the far side of happiness and hurt, and the experiences of family. Rather than confining the album to one subject, that image gives its different personal stories a shared frame.
#1 Best Overall
In a May 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Organ said he does not begin writing with a particular trauma in mind; personal material emerges as he works. He described songwriting as cathartic and discussed the album in relation to grief, self-belief, identity, purpose and uncertainty about creating music. The result, in his account, is not a set of songs designed to explain one event, but a record in which lived experience surfaces across different themes.
How family and personal experience appear in the songs
“All on Me” and family loss
Rolling Stone described “All on Me” as a tribute to Organ’s mother, written in the context of the deaths of his father and grandmother. It places family and bereavement within the album’s emotional range without reducing the record to grief alone.
Rank #2
“Sunny Side Up” and humour
Organ said “Sunny Side Up” explores his ADHD with humour. That choice offers a different tone from the album’s heavier reflections: personal subject matter can be approached with levity as well as seriousness.
“Love Me Back” and creative uncertainty
Organ has described a second meaning for “Love Me Back”: a reflection on the uncertainty of giving so much to a music career. The song’s personal reach therefore extends beyond family and relationships to the risks and doubts involved in pursuing creative work.

How Gordi became part of the title track
The title track began in a cabin in the Byron hinterland with Organ and collaborator Chris Collins. When the writing stalled, they considered bringing in a guest; Organ told The Music that Gordi was the first person they thought of. She recorded remotely from the United States.
Organ told The Note that Gordi’s verse and chorus introduced a different story while still feeling cohesive with his. Her feature is therefore part of the song’s development, not simply an added vocal: the track brings two perspectives into the same piece.

Where The Other Side sits in Organ’s work
The Other Side is Organ’s second album, following his 2021 debut, Necessary Evil. Rolling Stone characterized the newer record as reflecting growth and a more nuanced processing of loss. Across the two releases, a useful way to understand the change is through Organ’s own descriptions of how grief, self-acceptance and mental health enter his songwriting—not as a claim that the newer album resolves those experiences, but as a record of how his perspective has developed.
The album was released on May 16, 2025, and its official artist page promoted that release date. The coverage cited here describes record-store availability, but does not establish a particular physical format or a current listing in a specific market.
