If you only want more of her breakout single’s sound, expect the album to go further than that.

What the album is and when it arrived
Sony Music announced the album on March 22, 2024, as a 15-track release. In her GRAMMY.com interview of March 21, 2024, Tyla described it as her official introduction, saying “It’s me in music form.”
Sony Music’s store lists the album on CD. The sources cited here do not establish a vinyl edition, so the CD is the only physical format this review can confirm.

What genre is Tyla’s album?
GRAMMY.com describes an unconventional fusion of amapiano, pop and R&B, with a Latin element through the Becky G feature. Apple Music’s editorial description also names Afrobeats and frames the record as a coming-of-age chronicle about love, heartbreak and self-discovery.
Amapiano and pop/R&B are the references every source shares. Afrobeats appears in Apple Music’s description, and the Latin touch comes from one collaboration. These labels describe the album as a whole rather than meaning every track blends every style, so it is more useful to judge the album song by song.

How critics read it at release
NME’s contemporaneous review found “plenty of savvy, intriguing ideas” and argued that the album shows Tyla’s range beyond her hit.
