Twitch initially condemned the incident in which an attendee reportedly grabbed Emiru and tried to kiss her at the TwitchCon San Diego meet-and-greet in October 2025. Twitch said the attendee was barred from the convention and future in-person Twitch events. Emiru publicly disputed Twitch’s account of how the response unfolded. Later, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy apologized and said the company failed both in allowing the incident to occur and in its response afterward.
What happened at the meet-and-greet
The incident took place on October 17, 2025, during the meet-and-greet at TwitchCon San Diego, according to contemporaneous coverage such as PC Gamer’s report on the assault and Emiru’s public statement. Reports describe an attendee grabbing her and attempting to kiss her. Emiru later said she was shaken and criticized how Twitch handled the aftermath.
Coverage from 10News describes the incident as an alleged assault. On October 20, 2025, KPBS reported that Emiru said she had given a statement to police. The reporting available for this article does not identify the attendee, does not describe any criminal charge, and does not establish a court or police outcome. The account of the attack and the response rests on news reports summarizing public statements and footage, not on an independent investigation.
Twitch’s first statement
On October 18, 2025, Twitch issued its first public statement, which The Independent quoted as saying: “The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority.”

In the same initial response, Twitch condemned the conduct and said the attendee had been barred from TwitchCon and from future Twitch events, including in-person events. Reporting attributes this account to Twitch’s statement; it is the company’s own description of its action.
Emiru’s dispute of the response
Emiru disagreed with the way Twitch described the response. In comments reported by TheWrap on October 18, 2025, she said her own security guard intervened, and that TwitchCon security staff let the man walk away. She said she later learned he had been caught.

She also disputed Twitch’s claim that the response was immediate, and characterized Twitch’s assertion that the man was immediately caught and detained as “a blatant lie.” That phrase is Emiru’s characterization. The reporting does not independently establish either side’s version of the timeline, so the two accounts remain in conflict in the coverage reviewed.
Clancy’s later apology
On October 25, 2025, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy issued an apology that PC Gamer quoted: “We failed, both in allowing it to occur, and in our response following.”

This is the most direct acknowledgment in the reporting. It covers two failures: the incident itself, and the company’s response. Coverage of the apology describes it as also addressing Twitch’s communications after the event. Clancy’s statement moved the company’s position from defending the response to accepting responsibility for it, though it does not settle the factual dispute over how quickly the attendee was detained.
The reported $100,000 donation
On November 14, 2025, PC Gamer reported that Emiru said Twitch had agreed to donate $100,000 to a violence-protection charity. The charity is not named in that report. Emiru’s stated reason was that she wanted a public resolution.

- Whether the $100,000 donation was paid, and which charity would receive it.
- Whether Twitch has changed event security or policy in response; the coverage reviewed does not describe specific changes.
