Twenties follows a queer Black woman and her two straight friends as they navigate life in their twenties in Los Angeles, according to Paramount+’s series description. Its premise makes it a direct fit for viewers looking for stories about friendship, identity, and finding a footing in a big city.

Girls: the awkward uncertainty after college
HBO’s press materials describe Girls as a half-hour series about women in their twenties floundering after college. Its appeal is less about offering a tidy guide to adulthood and more about watching characters make uncertain, sometimes uncomfortable choices. It suits viewers who prefer a sharper dramedy to a reassuring or straightforwardly aspirational story. HBO’s series materials provide the official overview.
How to choose a show for the stage of life you want to watch
- Want a light friendship comedy? Try Broad City.
- Want work life alongside relationships and identity? Try The Bold Type.
- Want city life and a close-knit friend group? Try Twenties.
- Want awkward post-college uncertainty? Try Girls.
Those distinctions matter: stories set in school or college can be enjoyable, but they are not interchangeable with shows about first jobs, post-college confusion, or life in your twenties. If you are looking for younger, school-centered coming-of-age stories instead, Netflix Tudum’s teen-show recommendations include Forever and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
