It is not a universal verdict: another 2025 list focused on Australian beaches named the Bay of Fires its winner.
What the 2025 ranking says
The official World’s 50 Best Beaches 2025 list places Cala Goloritzè first and Turquoise Bay at number 11. It also includes two other Australian beaches: Wharton Beach at 21 and Nudey Beach at 37. On this list, Turquoise Bay is Australia’s highest-ranked entry.
The result should be read within the scope of that global ranking. A separate Australian-focused list published by Tourism Australia named the Bay of Fires as its 2025 top beach, as noted in the government announcement. The lists have different scopes and winners; neither establishes a single objective answer to which beach is best.
How the list was decided
In an April 30, 2025 report, Forbes Australia said the ranking draws on votes from more than 1,000 travel-industry professionals and influencers and evaluates beaches against eight criteria:

Those figures describe the methodology as Forbes reported it. They are not a scientific measurement of every beach worldwide, and the rank reflects that publisher’s approach and voter pool.
Where Turquoise Bay is and what to expect
Turquoise Bay is on Western Australia’s Ningaloo coast. Australia’s Coral Coast 2026 holiday planner describes white sand, clear water and reef gardens close to shore. Visitors can explore independently or join a guided snorkelling tour; the planner does not establish which operators are currently available.

Can you snorkel the drift at Turquoise Bay?
The regional holiday planner describes a drift snorkel, but it also gives specific safety advice. It says the drift is not recommended for weak swimmers. It advises visitors to enter at the southern end, check tide information at the Milyering Discovery Centre before getting in, and use fins to help with exiting. Fins do not make the drift suitable for someone who is not a capable swimmer.
These are general visitor guidelines, not a live assessment of sea or tide conditions. Check conditions and local advice on the day before deciding whether to enter.

What to check before visiting
The Ningaloo Centre’s visitor information page lists local knowledge, maps, tour and accommodation information, and road-condition information among the centre’s services. Use local sources for current access and conditions: the ranking and holiday-planner guidance do not report what the tide, sea or roads are like on a particular day.
