Yes. The breakup rumors involving drag performer Trixie Mattel—whose real name is Brian Firkus—and filmmaker David Silver were true. Trixie confirmed on December 30, 2024, that the couple had separated, although she made clear that the split had happened some time earlier.
The confusion lasted because neither person had announced the breakup when reports began circulating in 2024. Because their personal and professional lives overlapped, seeing them associated with the same projects did not necessarily mean that the relationship was continuing. That distinction is important when assessing older coverage.
Why some reports got the story wrong
A September 9, 2024 report treated the couple as still together because there had been no public breakup announcement. It also pointed to their ongoing business and television connections as evidence that the relationship remained intact.
That conclusion was later disproved by Trixie’s December announcement. Articles that still describe Trixie and David as a current couple—or dismiss the breakup as “completely rubbish”—are relying on information that predates the confirmation.

The absence of a public scandal did not mean the separation was emotionally easy. In an episode of Paloma Faith’s podcast Mad, Sad and Bad, published on August 11, 2025, Trixie described periods when she struggled to perform and “couldn’t even get makeup on.” She also said that appearing on television while the relationship was no longer intact was particularly difficult.
Those comments show that the breakup had a serious personal impact. They do not, however, provide a new explanation for why the relationship ended. Emotional consequences and the cause of a breakup are separate questions.

Are Trixie and David back together?
There is no verified evidence that Trixie and David reconciled. The strongest later indication points in the opposite direction. During an appearance on Nicole Byer’s Why Won’t You Date Me? podcast, listed on June 5, 2026, Trixie discussed the difficulty of navigating a private breakup and described herself as protective of a new relationship.
That does not identify her current partner, and it does not reveal when the new relationship began. It does indicate that David remains a former partner rather than a publicly confirmed current one.
