Spoilers: This explanation covers the premise revealed in the official trailer and Hulu’s synopsis, not the film’s later twists.
In Trap, a father and his teenage daughter attend a pop concert that doubles as a police operation to catch a serial killer known as the Butcher. The concert is not just a setting: it is where the authorities have built their plan, and the father and daughter find themselves at the center of the danger.

What is Trap about?
M. Night Shyamalan’s 2024 thriller begins with an apparently ordinary outing: a father takes his teenage daughter to a pop concert. Warner Bros.’ official synopsis says they realize they are at the center of a “dark and sinister event.” Hulu’s synopsis spells out the premise: law enforcement is using the concert as an elaborate operation to catch a serial killer called the Butcher.
That makes the concert both the event the characters came to enjoy and the setting for an attempt to capture a killer. The trailer’s central tension comes from that collision: a crowded public performance is underway while a police operation unfolds around it. The official trailer promotes the tagline “30,000 Fans. 300 Cops. 1 Serial Killer. No Escape.” Those numbers are Warner Bros. advertising copy, not independently verified crowd or police counts.
#1 Best Overall
Is the concert itself part of the trap?
Yes—in the sense that authorities have arranged a police operation at the concert to catch the Butcher. The concert is not merely a backdrop to a separate investigation. The official trailer establishes that a father and daughter are attending, while Hulu explicitly describes the operation to catch the killer. The premise turns a large, public entertainment venue into the setting for the attempt.
The trailer and synopsis establish that setup, but they do not justify assuming that every twist or outcome in the full film is disclosed. The explanation here stays with what the marketing materials reveal.
Rank #2
Who made the film, and who stars in it?
Trap is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Warner Bros.’ official trailer names Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill among the stars. Apple TV lists the film as a 2024 release with a runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes.
What music is in the trailer?
The trailer features music connected to the film’s pop-star character, Lady Raven, played by Saleka Shyamalan. Warner Bros. promoted original songs by Saleka as Lady Raven alongside the song “Release” and an album preorder. This links the concert premise to the film’s music; the official trailer material does not, by itself, establish a complete track list or the current availability of a soundtrack release.
