Why Colter and Billie team up
Billie approaches Colter in a bar with a request to help locate Eric Dobbs, a talented pitcher from Barnes, Nebraska. Eric was expected to sign a letter of intent to play for Southern Nebraska University. His parents have not contacted police because they fear publicity could hurt his baseball prospects.
The job also brings Billie back to a town she has a personal history with. She admits to Colter that she is from Barnes, despite previously telling him she was from Miami. She says locals resent her family because of her mother. Colter agrees to take the case on a 60/40 reward split.

What happened to Eric?
Colter questions Eric’s parents, coach and catcher. Eric’s father says he and his son had argued, and worries that Eric’s relationship with Ashley, an older girlfriend, had distracted him from baseball. Colter finds cash and OxyContin in Eric’s mitt; Eric’s catcher suspects the pills belong to Ashley.
Colter and Billie find Ashley badly injured in a railyard car. At the scene, Colter notices three sets of footprints and signs that a third person attacked both Ashley and Eric. That evidence undermines the assumption that Eric was responsible for Ashley’s injuries.
Rank #2
A blood bag points the search toward an illicit blood bank. Inside, Colter and Billie find a teenage runaway’s body and evidence that blood was being collected outside legitimate medical channels. According to the episode recap, Eric had agreed to sell his blood to get money for Ashley’s rehabilitation, but ran after seeing the dead teenager.
How the blood scheme is exposed
The operation is linked to Everlife Innovations, whose investor Shane Nile is also a school booster. Once police enter the investigation, Shane pulls back the reward and the university scholarship offer, deepening Eric’s family’s fears about his future.

Billie is abducted after leaving town, and Eric is also held by Everlife. Colter follows files Billie had been investigating and identifies Shane as Everlife’s main investor. When Shane threatens Billie with scissors, Colter shoots him, freeing her and bringing the case to a close.
How “Bloodlines” ends
Eric is reunited with his father. The scholarship remains available, and his father acknowledges that he pushed Eric too hard. He is also willing to give Ashley another chance.
Rank #4
Billie survives and, in the closing conversation with Colter, explains why Barnes has been so hostile toward her. Her mother worked as a city hall bookkeeper and stole money; Billie says the town made her bear the consequences. She admits she knew her mother’s actions were wrong but did not stop her. Colter understands the conflict: he, too, knows what it is like to love and resent a parent at the same time.
