“Collision” is Episode 18 of Tracker’s second season. It aired on CBS on April 27, 2025, runs 43 minutes, and sends Colter to Willow Creek, Michigan, to find a missing beauty queen. Published critics disagree about its quality: one calls it typical Tracker fare with a Lifetime-movie feel, and another rates it average on its own terms but useful to the wider season. The headline’s claim that the episode has “1 great thing” is an editorial judgment, and the published sources do not say which element it refers to. This review explains the episode’s setup, what the critics actually said, and how to test the headline’s claim for yourself.

The setup: a familiar missing-person case
CBS’s official premise is simple. A worried mother hires Colter to track down Riley, her beauty queen daughter, who vanished while driving home from work. The case takes him to Willow Creek, Michigan.
A published recap adds the opening context that CBS’s synopsis leaves out. In that recap, Riley is on the phone with her mother while driving, she is sideswiped in a roadside collision, and she disappears after the crash. The recap names the mother as Susanna. Because this detail comes from secondary reporting rather than the network’s synopsis, treat it as the recap’s account.
The premise is built on a template viewers already know: an ordinary person vanishes between home and work, and a tracker is brought in to find out why. That familiarity is the starting point for the critical debate below.

What the critics said
Two published critic verdicts appear in Rotten Tomatoes’ excerpts. They are two individual responses, not a consensus or an audience score.
TV Fanatic: “Lifetime movie” tone, typical Tracker fare
Whitney Evans of TV Fanatic rated the episode 3.85 out of 5. She said its vibe is similar to a Lifetime movie, and she made clear that the comparison was not meant as an insult. Her view is that the episode is typical Tracker fare. For readers who already know the series, that places the episode within the show’s established style rather than apart from it.

CBR: average alone, effective in the season
Brittany Frederick of CBR rated the episode 5 out of 10. She described it as average on its own merits but effective within the larger season. This is the clearest statement in the excerpts of the gap between a standalone verdict and a season-level one.
Two ways to judge “Collision”
The two reviews use different yardsticks. Placing them side by side makes the disagreement easier to assess.

Testing the “1 great thing” claim
The headline calls one element of the episode great. None of the published sources identify that element, so this review does not assign it to anyone. Whether the claim holds depends on specific scenes and craft choices, and the sources available here do not provide that level of scene-by-scene detail. If you want to check the headline yourself, watch for these points:

- Opening collision. Does the sideswipe and Riley’s disappearance land with clarity and weight, or does it feel like setup only?
- Setting against case. Does Willow Creek give the investigation a distinct texture, or is it a backdrop for a standard search?
- Colter’s method. Does the search build tension through the character’s process, or does it move through beats the audience already expects?
- Season payoff. If the episode matters mainly as part of Season 2, which threads does it advance, and does that advancement reward viewers who follow the series closely?
An episode that is weak as a standalone can still earn its place through a single strong sequence. An episode that feels formulaic can still be memorable for one reason. The headline asks you to find that reason; the critics do not supply it.

About the series’ source material
WhatToWatch describes Tracker as based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel The Never Game. That connection explains the series’ origin but does not show that the novel adapts “Collision” or includes this episode’s storyline.
Our verdict on the episode
“Collision” is a standard Tracker case with a tone that some critics find familiar and others find dependable. Its standalone strength is modest by one published account, while its value to the season is the stronger argument. Viewers who follow Tracker closely will get the most out of it; newcomers should start earlier in the season.
