The sources behind this headline confirm that Justin Hartley plays Colter Shaw in Tracker and works as an executive producer on the show. They also confirm that Hartley has talked publicly about being mistaken online for Glen Powell, a star of Top Gun: Maverick. They do not confirm that an Episode 10 sneak peek exists, what it shows, or that it contains any Top Gun: Maverick reference. Treat the “channels Top Gun: Maverick” framing as a headline idea, not a reported fact about the clip.
What the sources establish
- Cast and credit. Paramount’s official press index lists Justin Hartley as the actor playing Colter Shaw and as an executive producer of Tracker. The same index lists Top Gun: Maverick as a separate title. It does not link the film to any particular Tracker preview. (Paramount Press Express, The Show Index)
- The Glen Powell story. A 2024 USA TODAY interview, syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment, reports that Hartley was mistaken online for Glen Powell and that the two actors laughed about the confusion. (USA TODAY via Yahoo Entertainment, 2024)
What the Glen Powell story does and does not prove
The 2024 interview is real background for a lookalike joke, and it explains why a headline writer might connect Hartley with the film. It is a different kind of evidence from a preview clip. The interview describes a mix-up between two actors’ faces online. It does not describe a scene in which Hartley imitates a pilot, a flight sequence, or any character from Top Gun: Maverick, and it does not say the mix-up was used in Tracker.
Readers should keep those two claims apart: Hartley and Powell were confused online, which the interview reports, and a Tracker preview riffs on Top Gun: Maverick, which no source in this set confirms.
What remains unverified

- Movie dvd
- The season number and episode title.
- The air date or the date the preview was published.
- The scene shown in the preview, including whether any part of it involves flying or an aviation storyline.
- Whether an official clip exists, and whether it contains a Top Gun: Maverick reference, a lookalike gag, or any dialogue from the film.
- Any quote from Hartley about the preview.
The official press index is a general reference for personnel and titles. It is not an episode guide, so it cannot settle those points on its own.
How to check a Tracker preview claim yourself
- Open the official show listing on the network’s or studio’s own website, and confirm the season and episode number before anything else.
- Look for the preview on an official channel: the network’s or studio’s YouTube account, or its press materials. A clip that appears only on an aggregator or in a social post without a source should be treated as unconfirmed.
- Watch the clip itself, and note whether it shows an aviation scene, a pilot character, or any on-screen reference to Top Gun: Maverick. A headline comparison does not count as evidence of what the clip contains.
- Check the publication date on any article that describes the preview. Interviews from earlier years, such as the 2024 Hartley interview, may be reused in later coverage without any link to a new episode.
How to read the headline
“Channels ‘Top Gun: Maverick'” is a comparison, not a description. Until an official episode page or clip confirms the scene, it describes an editorial angle that a writer chose, not an event on screen. If you find an official clip that does contain a Top Gun: Maverick reference, that clip, not the headline, becomes the source for what the episode shows.
