The number-one video on YouTube’s official global top-trending list for 2015 was “Silento- Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) #WatchMeDanceOn”, by Tianne King. This was not a ranking by view count alone: YouTube said it considered watch time, sharing, comments, likes and other signals. The list covers trending videos across categories, not just music.
YouTube’s top 10 trending videos of 2015
YouTube published the ranking in a December 9, 2015, post by Kevin Allocca, then Global Director of Culture & Trends. The titles below are reproduced as listed, in the official order.
- “Silento- Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) #WatchMeDanceOn” — Tianne King
- “Clash of Clans: Revenge (Official Super Bowl TV Commercial)” — Clash of Clans
- “Crazy Plastic Ball PRANK!!” — RomanAtwood
- “Love Has No Labels | Diversity & Inclusion | Ad Council” — Ad Council
- “Lip Sync Battle with Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon” — The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

- “6ft Man in 6ft Giant Water Balloon – 4K – The Slow Mo Guys” — The Slow Mo Guys
- “Golden boy Calum Scott hits the right note | Audition Week 1 | Britain’s Got Talent 2015” — Britain’s Got Talent
- “Dover Police DashCam Confessional (Shake it Off)” — Dover Police
- “Mean Tweets – President Obama Edition” — Jimmy Kimmel Live
What “most popular” means in this ranking
YouTube described the list as its official top trending videos, based on “the amount of time people spent watching, sharing, commenting, liking, and more.” It therefore should not be described as the ten most-viewed videos without qualification: the published method included multiple engagement signals, rather than raw view count alone. YouTube did not publish a full formula or weights for those signals in the post. Read YouTube’s 2015 ranking and methodology.
How big was the audience?
YouTube reported that the ten videos were watched for over 25 million hours in 2015 and came from channels with over 40 million subscribers combined. These are YouTube’s reported figures for the general trending list, not independently recalculated totals. Allocca summarized: “These videos were watched for over 25 million hours and were created by powerhouse channels with over 40 million subscribers between them.”

The general trending list is not the music-video ranking
YouTube published a separate top music videos list for 2015. Its first five entries were “See You Again,” “Sugar,” “Love Me Like You Do,” “Lean On,” and “Bad Blood”; “Hello” ranked ninth and “Watch Me” tenth. That music-only ranking had its own reported scale: YouTube said those ten music videos had more than 66 million subscribers combined and were played for over 37,000 years during 2015. Those totals refer to the music list, not the ten general trending videos above. YouTube’s post includes both lists and their separate figures.

The general top ten ranged across dance and music, a game advertisement, a prank, a public-service campaign, late-night television, a slow-motion stunt, a talent-show audition and a police video. Its variety reflects the breadth of the trending category; it is not a single-genre chart. Separately, YouTube said more than 150 creators from around the world participated in its 2015 Rewind video. That figure describes the Rewind production, not the creators or ranking of the ten videos.
