This is an editorial ranking, not a measured popularity list. “Yellow,” “golden” and “amber” are flexible visual descriptions rather than standardized character attributes, so this list focuses on characters whose eyes are commonly depicted as clearly yellow or gold in representative anime art. Lighting and artwork can shift the apparent shade. The order weighs distinctive design, story role, character development, how central the eye color is to the look, and recognition across anime—not power alone.
How this ranking works
The ten names and their series provide a researched starting point, but no verified audience poll or reproducible scoring system establishes a definitive order. The ranking below is therefore an editorial selection. Because yellow, gold and amber can blur together onscreen, treat close color calls as visual judgments rather than official classifications.
Top 10 anime characters with yellow eyes
10. Ryuk — Death Note
Ryuk’s yellow eyes complement the character’s stark, otherworldly design. His memorable silhouette and role as the story’s unsettling observer make the color part of a broader visual identity rather than a standalone gimmick.
9. Inuyasha — Inuyasha
Inuyasha’s gold-toned eyes suit the character’s half-demon appearance and help distinguish him from the human characters around him. His look is immediately recognizable, though the exact shade can vary between scenes and artwork.

7. Kenpachi Zaraki — Bleach
Kenpachi’s intense gaze reinforces his imposing presence. His visual design is built around a rough, unmistakable silhouette, and the yellow-gold eye impression adds to that effect without being the sole reason he stands out.

What “yellow eyes” means in anime
Anime art does not use a single standard for labeling eye color. A character’s iris may read as yellow, gold or amber depending on palette, lighting, adaptation and the specific artwork. This list uses those terms descriptively and favors clearly yellow- or gold-looking designs; borderline amber-brown cases should be treated cautiously rather than assumed to qualify.
Eye color can contribute to a character’s visual impression, but color symbolism is interpretation unless a creator or official source states otherwise. The appearance of yellow eyes alone does not establish a shared meaning across different series.
