The report does not give the performance’s calendar date, and it offers no comment from Galati himself.
What happened at the Spudking show
According to PerthNow’s 29 July 2024 report, Galati arrived at the bar with friends, watched the band’s set and posed for a photo with the musicians. The article identifies the venue as Old Habits Neighbourhood Bar in West Perth, but describes the show only as taking place on a Saturday; it does not state that Saturday’s date.
Bassist and vocalist Rupert Ebery told PerthNow he had been inviting Galati for some time. Ebery recalled seeing him bob his head and laugh with people around him, and said, “He was definitely enjoying it.” That is Ebery’s account of Galati’s reaction, not a statement from Galati.

The lineup is the one reported in July 2024, not a verified current roster. Ebery was described as the band’s inception “brains” and as someone who worked in the fruit and vegetable industry and occasionally shopped at Spudshed. The band’s identity draws on humor and a working-class aesthetic; the report characterized its songs as parodies inspired by actual events.
Why the band wrote “Spud Warfare”
The name and subject matter connect the group to Galati’s public profile as the “Spud King.” Ebery told PerthNow that the band drew inspiration from Galati’s public appearances and the widely covered dispute involving the Potato Marketing Corporation. He recalled the legal dispute as the prompt for “Spud Warfare,” explaining the idea this way: “Instead of it being a legal battle, what if it was an actual battle?”

PerthNow quoted a Spudking Facebook post describing the gig as difficult to top: “Going to be very tough to follow this one up. What a gig,” the post said, adding that the room was packed for the band’s “super early set.” The comment was attributed to the band, not Galati.
