Yes. Tomorrowland Belgium 2025 went ahead after a fire destroyed its original Mainstage on July 16, two days before the festival’s first weekend. Organizers initially prepared contingency plans; by July 18, a replacement stage was ready and the grounds opened to festivalgoers.
What happened to Tomorrowland’s Mainstage?
The fire broke out on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and destroyed the original Mainstage at De Schorre in Boom, Belgium. The Associated Press reported that no one was injured; the cause had not been announced at the time. AP’s July 16 report reproduced the organizers’ statement: “We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident.”
The 19th edition was scheduled across two weekends, July 18–20 and July 25–27. Before the fire, Tomorrowland had announced more than 850 artists across 16 stages and expected 400,000 attendees from more than 200 countries. The official timetable announcement described the Orbyz-themed edition and its schedule.
How the decision to continue unfolded
July 17: the festival was proceeding, but Friday remained uncertain
On July 17, organizers told NOS that the festival would go ahead. They were still considering alternatives in case a replacement Mainstage could not be completed in time for Friday. DreamVille, Tomorrowland’s campsite, opened as scheduled. The decision to continue did not yet guarantee that the new stage would be ready. NOS reported the organizers’ July 17 update.

July 18: the replacement stage was ready
By the first festival day, a replacement Mainstage had been assembled. Belga reported that the grounds would open to all festivalgoers at 14:00 and that the new stage was scheduled to open at 16:00, after safety checks. Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said, “We’re ready,” and added: “Our teams worked day and night, with heart and soul, to make the impossible happen: Tomorrowland Belgium 2025 will open its doors at 14:00.” Belga’s July 18 report confirmed the opening plan.
July 29: the festival reported both weekends completed
In its retrospective, Tomorrowland said teams built the replacement structure on the original site in under 48 hours. The organization reported that more than 400,000 people from over 200 countries attended across the two weekends. Those are post-event figures reported by Tomorrowland, distinct from the 400,000-person estimate published before the festival. The official retrospective stated: “In less than 48 hours, the Tomorrowland teams rebuilt an entirely new stage structure on the original site.”

What is known about the fire’s cause?
The cause was not established in the immediate reporting. In November 2025, Belga, citing sources speaking to VRT NWS, reported that the fire began during a test involving fire bowls and that nearby fireworks caught fire. The report said whether a fire bowl directly caused the destructive stage fire remained under investigation, with criminal and civil inquiries ongoing. This is a reported investigative lead, not a final official finding. Belga’s November 18, 2025 report also discussed a reported €60 million damage estimate; that figure should not be read as a settled award, liability finding or confirmed final cost.
As of Belga’s May 22, 2026 update, the investigation into the fire’s cause was still ongoing. The same report described a separate risk analysis coordinated by the University of Antwerp, which assessed overall risk as low to moderate and proposed additional safety measures, including real-time crowd monitoring, more fire guards, protections for evacuation routes, backup safety teams and refined show-stop procedures. That risk analysis was not a judicial finding about how the fire started. Belga’s May 22, 2026 update covered the investigation and safety review.

Did the fire cancel the festival?
No. The original Mainstage was lost, but Tomorrowland continued: the organizers confirmed the festival would proceed, a replacement stage was ready for the first day, and the event completed both weekends. The July 17 uncertainty was resolved by the confirmed July 18 opening.
