Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered brings together three adventures from the series’ more turbulent classic era. Its appeal is clearest for players who want to revisit those games with visual and control options—and especially for anyone curious about what The Angel of Darkness might have been. The restoration is meaningful, but it should not be mistaken for proof that the original’s broader design problems have been solved.
What is in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered?
Aspyr’s collection packages three games: Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999), Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000), and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003). The publisher announced the collection for February 14, 2025, across console and PC platforms. Crystal Dynamics’ launch announcement describes the set and its remastered visuals.
- The Last Revelation follows Lara’s discovery of Set’s tomb and an ancient prophecy.
- Chronicles frames its adventures as stories told by people close to Lara after she is presumed dead.
- The Angel of Darkness casts Lara as a fugitive accused of murder, investigating a conspiracy.
The set’s character comes from that particular stretch of the series: it preserves three distinct entries rather than presenting a uniform new starting point. The publisher’s official descriptions establish their premises, but they do not establish how well their original mechanics hold up in play today.
What does the remaster add?
At launch, the publisher listed improved graphics with an on-the-fly switch to the classic presentation, a choice between modern and tank-style controls, Photo Mode, boss health bars, and achievements or trophies on supported platforms. Those are feature-list claims, not a guarantee that every option will suit every player or that the controls feel equally good in all three games.

- See the Classic & Remastered Visuals: Play with the original polygonal models or swap to the remastered graphics at any time.
- Travel the Globe: Follow Lara Croft around iconic locales including Cairo, Rome, Paris, and many more!
- Experience Lara’s Darkest Adventures: Uncover the secrets of Lara Croft’s past and shed light on the mystery of her disappearance.
- Languages: Voice: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean; Subtitles: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified).
The graphics toggle gives returning players a way to compare the new presentation with the originals without leaving the game. The two control styles acknowledge different preferences: players familiar with the older games may want tank controls, while newcomers may prefer the modern option. Without documented hands-on testing, it would be misleading to make a stronger claim about responsiveness, camera behavior, or visual consistency.
Why Angel of Darkness is the collection’s most unusual draw
The Angel of Darkness is the game that gives this package its most pointed preservation story. Crystal Dynamics called the original “initially divisive” and said it later developed a cult following. Its January 2025 feature describes restored material, including Kurtis Trent’s Chirugai and psychic shield, a Parisian Back Streets training area, additional uses for Rennes’ pawnshop and the herbalist, more voice lines and notebook entries, and Von Croy’s cane. The publisher’s feature lists these restorations.

- Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation - Lara Croft discovers the lost grave of the Egyptian gods set, unconsciously releasing it and filling the ancient prophecy - such that sink humanity in the dark
- Tomb Raider: Chronicles - After the events of The Last Revelation, Lara Croft is buried in an Egyptian tomb and considered the dead The loved ones remember the secrets of the past as a keepsake
- Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness - Murder Claimed Lara Escape On The Run by Discovering Evil Conspiracy covering Alchemical Experiments and Ancient Artifacts Search
- See classic and remastered visual effects: play with original polygon models or swap for remastered graphics at any time
- Travel the world: Follow Lara Croft through iconic locations including Cairo, Rome, Paris, and more!
These additions make the remaster notable as an attempt to recover selected planned or cut content. They do not, by themselves, demonstrate that the game’s larger design is fixed. Restored abilities, dialogue, locations, and inventory items can make a historical version more complete without answering the separate question of how its systems feel to play now.
The same feature recommends Modern controls for Angel of Darkness and describes camera rotation, directional jumping, mid-air shooting, consecutive jumps, and corner shooting. That is the publisher’s recommendation and description, not an independent assessment of how reliably those actions work.

What the patches document
Aspyr’s patch notes record two substantial post-launch update notices, but they should be read as a record of reported changes rather than proof that every issue is resolved on every platform.
- Patch 1, April 18, 2025: Aspyr said it was available on all platforms. Its notes list new outfits for The Last Revelation and Chronicles, Photo Mode additions, brightness and retro-filter options, camera and control refinements, texture and lighting fixes, and localization work. Read Aspyr’s Patch 1 notes.
- Patch 2, August 13, 2025, updated August 14: Aspyr lists bug fixes, crash improvements, and visual and localization changes across all three games. Specific items include rare crashes, softlocks, save/load behavior, lighting and texture issues, voiceover, menu navigation, and controller prompts. The notes also describe Golden Pistols unlocked through TombRaider.com registration in The Last Revelation and Chronicles, not Angel of Darkness. Read Aspyr’s Patch 2 notes.
Those notes show that the publisher addressed a range of reported problems and added options after release. They do not establish the current stability or control feel of a particular platform build, so check recent platform-specific information if either is decisive for your purchase.

Platforms, editions, and buying context
The launch announcement lists Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The PlayStation listing says one purchase entitles the player to both digital PS4 and PS5 versions; verify the current store terms before buying. See the PlayStation Store listing.
The launch announcement gave a $29.99 price, but that is a historical launch figure, not a reliable current price. Store pricing and availability vary by region and can change. A May 2025 Meristation report described physical releases in Spain from Meridiem for PS4, PS5, and Switch, as well as Limited Run Games editions for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Switch. It mentioned collector extras such as soundtrack selections, lithographs, keychains, and pins; current stock, shipping, and regional availability are not established. Read Meristation’s May 2025 report.
Who should consider playing it?
- Returning fans: The collection offers a way to revisit three later classic-era entries with a choice of visual presentation and control scheme. The restoration work in Angel of Darkness is a particular point of interest for players following the game’s history.
- Players curious about the series’ history: The package preserves three games with different premises and a complicated legacy. Go in expecting older design conventions, not a modern reboot or a guarantee that restored content resolves every original weakness.
- Players sensitive to controls or stability: The listed control options and patch history are useful context, but neither establishes moment-to-moment quality on your specific platform. Seek current platform-specific reports before treating those features as a reason to buy.
One wider franchise statistic is easy to misread: Crystal Dynamics reported more than 100 million Tomb Raider units sold in October 2024. That is a franchise-wide milestone, not sales evidence for this remaster. See the franchise announcement.
