Actor and professional wrestler Tom “Tiny” Lister Jr., remembered by wrestling fans as Zeus and by film audiences as Deebo in Friday, died at 62. WWE published its memorial on December 10, 2020; the Associated Press reported his death the following day.
What was reported about Lister’s death?
WWE’s December 10, 2020 memorial said Lister had died at age 62. The Associated Press report, republished by CBS News on December 11, attributed details about his discovery and pronouncement to his manager, Cindy Cowan: he was found unconscious at home and pronounced dead at the scene. AP said at the time that the cause had not been released and the coroner’s office was investigating. That describes the status reported in December 2020; it does not establish a definitive cause of death.

Why was Tom Lister known as Zeus?
Lister’s wrestling identity grew out of the 1989 film No Holds Barred. WWE describes Zeus as beginning opposite Hulk Hogan in the film, then carrying that rivalry into wrestling events. Lister appeared at SummerSlam and Survivor Series in 1989, extending the character beyond the screen and connecting his acting and wrestling careers.
