Tom Holland suffered a reported mild concussion while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day in September 2025. Production paused temporarily, but contemporaneous reporting said the break would not affect the film’s planned July 31, 2026 release. The movie later wrapped in December 2025 and, as of October 8, 2026, Sony lists it as available through digital retailers.
What happened to Tom Holland on the set?
Variety reported on September 22, 2025, that Holland had suffered a mild concussion on the set the previous Friday, September 19. He was expected to take a precautionary break and return within days; the report said no one else was injured. Variety’s September 22 report and ABC News’ account both described a mild concussion and a temporary pause.
How long did filming pause?
On September 23, Variety reported that filming would pause for about a week, with shooting expected to resume September 29. A source close to production said Holland was recuperating “out of an abundance of caution.” Variety’s follow-up also said the pause was not expected to affect the planned release date.
Did the injury delay the film’s release?
The available reporting does not support describing the incident as a release delay. In September 2025, Variety reported that the July 31, 2026 date would not be affected. TheWrap later reported that filming had wrapped on December 19, 2025, and that the injury-related pause had not changed the slated release. TheWrap’s wrap report documented the production’s completion.

What did the director say later?
In an interview reported by ComicBook.com on June 15, 2026, director Destin Daniel Cretton said his immediate concern was Holland’s wellbeing, not the production schedule. He described the team taking a short break before resuming: “I just make sure that my actors are healthy and ready to keep moving. And we took a little break, and then we jumped back on the horse and kept going.” Cretton also said release dates were Sony’s responsibility. Read Cretton’s comments at ComicBook.com.
