Tom Holland backed Zendaya’s tennis drama Challengers with a public show of support during its U.S. opening weekend: on April 27, 2024, he posted the film’s poster on Instagram with the caption, “I know what I’m doing this weekend!” He had also appeared with her during the film’s press-tour period. Zendaya said she felt lucky to have support from family and friends around her.
What Tom Holland did to support Challengers

He had also joined Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach at the BNP Paribas Open in early March. At the London premiere period on April 10, Entertainment Tonight reported that he skipped the red carpet and was seen greeting and kissing Zendaya inside the venue. Entertainment Tonight’s coverage also includes Zendaya’s comments at the Los Angeles premiere.
What Zendaya said about feeling supported
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Los Angeles premiere on April 16, 2024, Zendaya said, “It’s great. I mean, I feel so lucky. I have so much beautiful support around me,” and referred to family and friends who were there. Her remarks describe support from the people around her; they do not specifically attribute that statement to Holland alone.

What Challengers is about
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the film stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy who becomes a coach. The story places Tashi’s husband, Art, in competition with Patrick, her former boyfriend and Art’s former friend. Tennis is the setting for a tangled personal rivalry as well as the sport at the center of the plot. MGM’s film page and Amazon’s announcement outline the premise.
Zendaya told the Associated Press that she chose the role “Because it sounded like a challenge. Because it is so different from me.” Guadagnino described the film’s central tennis image this way: “The ball is the ephemeral, invisible force of desire.” The AP also reported Zendaya’s extensive preparation and the studio’s opening-weekend audience estimates, but neither those figures nor Holland’s post demonstrate that his support drove the film’s attendance.
