Its compact format makes it a strong choice for viewers looking for an intense crime drama they can finish quickly—but its violence and bleak family conflicts make it anything but light viewing.
What is The Take about?
Freddie Jackson returns to London after prison and uses his criminal connections to pursue greater power. His cousin Jimmy wants to rise alongside him, while Freddie’s wife Jackie struggles with his return and the life it brings back into their home. The story also follows Maggie, whose relationship with Jimmy adds another family thread, and Ozzy, an imprisoned crime boss whose influence shapes the cousins’ choices.

Is it worth watching?
For viewers who want a short, character-driven British crime story, the four-part structure is an advantage: the series has room for its family and criminal-power strands without requiring a long season commitment. Hardy’s Freddie is at the center, but the consequences of his return reach Jackie, Jimmy, and Maggie as well.
Go in expecting a brutal crime drama, not a breezy caper. In a contemporaneous review, The Guardian’s Julia Raeside noted that the opening episode proved more brutal than its glossy promotion suggested. That makes the series a poor fit for viewers avoiding onscreen violence. Read the Guardian review.

Title pages have appeared on Netflix, Apple TV, Prime Video, and Tubi, but a listing does not guarantee that the show is currently playable in your country. A surfaced Prime Video listing, for example, showed regional unavailability. Check your local streaming catalogs before subscribing or renting; availability changes by territory and over time.
