Riley has built a career of her own as an actor and writer. Born in County Durham in 1981, she studied at Durham University and trained at LAMDA. Her later screen work has included Peaky Blinders and Press. “Private” is more accurate than “secret.” Riley has explained her approach directly: in a 2017 Guardian interview, she said, “I keep my family very private.” When asked about the relationship in 2014, she chose not to discuss it. Those are signs of a boundary around personal life, not evidence of a concealed scandal.
