He was not hosting. Grant Denyer hosted the game, and Gleeson played for a chance to win $250,000 for the charity Feel the Magic. He remained the host of ABC’s Hard Quiz, and nothing in the reporting or the network listings shows a change of job or channel.
What the appearance actually was
Paramount Australia & New Zealand announced on 9 July 2024 that Deal or No Deal would run six prime-time Celebrity Jackpot specials, scheduled for Mondays at 7:30 pm on Network 10 and 10 Play. In each special, a celebrity plays the game for the chance to win $250,000 for a charity of their choice. Network 10’s episode listing gives the air date for Gleeson’s episode as 22 July 2024 and names Feel the Magic as his chosen charity.

Two details matter for accuracy. The $250,000 is the advertised prize target, not a reported result, and the sources reviewed do not say how much was ultimately won or donated. The episode’s final outcome is also not reported in them.
Why he took part, in his own words
PerthNow reported on 22 July 2024 that Gleeson explained his appearance in an interview with TV Tonight. The report attributes to him the reason that he did it for fun because of Grant Denyer, and that he wanted to return a favour after Denyer had appeared on his Hard Chat segment. PerthNow quoted him as saying:

These are remarks as reported by PerthNow from the TV Tonight interview. The interview date and a full transcript are not established, so treat the wording as the publication’s reporting of what Gleeson said rather than a verbatim recording.
Why the “jumps ship” headline overstates it
“Jumps ship” is playful headline language for a crossover. The official ABC page still identifies Gleeson as host of Hard Quiz, describing a contest in which four Australian enthusiasts present their areas of expertise. Network 10’s listing describes Deal or No Deal as a game in which a contestant takes on the Banker, and it presents Gleeson only as the celebrity contestant in one episode. A representative biography lists the Deal or No Deal: Celebrity Edition appearance as a 2024 guest credit and Hard Quiz as an ABC hosting credit running through 2025. That biography is not independent confirmation of every detail it contains, but it is consistent with the other sources.

What the sources do not settle
The reporting does not confirm how much the episode raised for Feel the Magic. It also does not establish whether the 2024 episode is still available to stream in every territory as of October 2026, so check 10 Play or the relevant platform in your region before looking for it. If you are searching for a host change, the 2024 coverage and current ABC listings point the same way: Gleeson hosted Hard Quiz, and he took a single guest turn on a rival network’s celebrity special.
