The image included former NFL player Derrick Brooks, who, according to a People article syndicated by Yahoo, posted it to Instagram on December 27. The reports described the reunion as the first public appearance of the three together in roughly 14 to 15 years.
What the photo reportedly shows
E! and People, in an article syndicated by Yahoo, reported that Cruise posed with Bella and Connor in a group picture that also included Derrick Brooks. The outlets place the gathering at a Tampa Bay Lightning–Florida Panthers game in December 2023. These details are attributed to the outlets; the original Instagram post was not independently verified in the available reporting.
When the picture was taken, posted and reported
| Milestone | Reported date | What the outlets say |
|---|---|---|
| Game and reported outing | December 2023 | E! and People/Yahoo identify the setting as a Lightning–Panthers game. E! and People/Yahoo |
| Instagram post | December 27 | People/Yahoo says Brooks posted the photo that day; the article does not establish the post’s current availability. People/Yahoo |
| News coverage | May 6, 2024 | E! and People/Yahoo published coverage of the photo. E! and People/Yahoo |
Why outlets called it a rare public appearance
The time descriptions differ slightly: E! called the game the trio’s first public outing in 14 years, while People/Yahoo described it as almost 15 years. E! identified a 2009 Los Angeles soccer game as the last time the three had been seen publicly together before the reported December 2023 appearance. Those are descriptions of public sightings, not evidence about whether the family had private contact in between.
Who Bella and Connor are
Bella and Connor are Cruise’s children with Nicole Kidman. The articles stated that Bella was 31 and Connor was 29 when the coverage appeared in May 2024; those were their ages at publication, not current ages. People/Yahoo also mentions Cruise’s daughter Suri, whose mother is Katie Holmes, but does not identify Suri as part of this photograph.
