Tokyo Alley 11: Marine was scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 10am to 5pm at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. The pre-event preview announced more than 200 local artists alongside cosplay, gaming, workshops, performances, food and other activities. The date has passed; the available announcement describes the planned program, not a verified account of what took place.
What was Tokyo Alley 11: Marine?
Tokyo Alley 11: Marine was the 2023 edition of a Perth convention focused on Japanese culture, anime, illustration and gaming. PerthNow’s May 11, 2023 preview presented it as a one-day event at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC), not a two-day weekend schedule. The announced hours were 10am–5pm on Saturday, May 20. PerthNow’s event preview is the source for the date, venue and planned activities.
The word “returns” in the original event title refers to Tokyo Alley’s return to the convention-centre setting; it should not be read as a current or upcoming event listing. PCEC later hosted a separate edition, Tokyo Alley: CELEBRATION 2026, on May 9–10, 2026. Its details belong to that later event, not to Marine. PCEC’s 2026 event page describes that distinct edition.
What activities were announced?
The May 2023 preview described a mixed program of artist-led, performance and gaming activities. These were announced offerings, rather than a post-event confirmation that each activity went ahead.

How Tokyo Alley grew in Perth
According to PerthNow, local convention artists founded Tokyo Alley in 2016 in conjunction with Tokyo Underground, a Perth anime and pop-culture store. The event began with 10 vendors in the shop’s back room. By the preceding edition, Tokyo Alley 10: Dreamers at Curtin Stadium, the event had space for over 100 local artists and drew 2,000 attendees, the figures reported in the 2023 preview.

For Tokyo Alley 11, organizers announced more than 200 local artists. PerthNow also described the event generally as attracting over 2,000 fans of Japanese culture, anime, illustration and gaming; that description is not an audited turnout figure for Marine. The preview was published before the event, so it does not establish its final attendance.
Tokyo Alley graphic designer and artist Alis Kun reflected on the event’s growth: “It’s extraordinary to see how far Tokyo Alley had come since it first debuted from a small room with 10 artists and I’m beyond ecstatic as a committee member to witness Tokyo Alley continue to thrive and evolve.” Alis Kun also described the convention’s role for artists: “Tokyo Alley had always been a special place that helped several artists, like myself, to kickstart their artist career, gain confidence, make everlasting connections and thrive into something bigger.”

The May 11, 2023 preview is useful for understanding what organizers planned: the date and venue, the advertised program, the announced artist count and the event’s local history. Because it appeared before May 20, it does not verify actual turnout, whether every activity took place, or whether tickets remain available. No post-event outcome is established by that preview.
