Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard reportedly invited developers from Obsidian Entertainment to visit the New Vegas set built for Fallout Season 2. The invitation is attributed to Howard in a PC Gamer report, and GameSpot independently reports the same visit. What the reporting does not establish is who went, when they went, or whether Obsidian had any hand in building the set.
What was reported
The core story is a studio-level gesture. Howard invited the Obsidian team, which made Fallout: New Vegas, to see the location that the Fallout television series rebuilt for its second season. The invitation is the headline claim, and it rests on two outlets: PC Gamer attributes it to Howard, and GameSpot corroborates it by pointing back to the same PC Gamer interview. Neither report, as accessible to us, names individual Obsidian staff, gives a visit date, or confirms whether the invited developers accepted.

What Howard said about the set
Howard’s own account comes from a PC Gamer production interview published on 24 December 2025. In it, he describes seeing the New Vegas set at two points: while it was under construction and again once it was finished. He credited the production designer, Howard Cummings, and his team for the work.
Two passages from that interview carry most of the substance:

- Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands
- Feuding Factions, Colorful Characters and a Host of Hostiles
- Enjoy new additions to Fallout: Special melee combat moves have been added to bring new meaning to the phrase "up close and personal"
- With double the amount of weapons found in Fallout 3
- In a huge, open world with unlimited options you can see the sights, choose sides, or go it alone
- On the location: “New Vegas is such an iconic location in Fallout, and you’ve experienced it, right? The players have been there, so I think they just did, again, an incredible job. Howard Cummings, the production designer, and his whole team. I saw New Vegas as it was being built, and I saw it when it was done.”
- On the physical build: “I always view the biggest character being the world. I think everybody involved with the show has taken such amazing care to treat locations with this obsessive authenticity. And I think that’s what people like, and it’s all practical, or most of it, right? More so than other shows or movies.”
The phrase “all practical, or most of it” is worth reading closely. Howard is describing a set built as physical construction, with the qualifier that not every element was practical. It is not a blanket statement that the production avoided digital work.
What the reporting does not establish
The gap between the headline and the evidence is the part readers most often miss, so it is worth stating plainly:
Rank #2
- Feel the Heat in New Vegas: Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands from the small towns dotting the Mojave Wasteland to the bright lights of the New Vegas strip
- Feuding Factions, Colorful Characters and a Host of Hostiles : A war is brewing between rival factions with consequences that will change the lives of all the inhabitants of New Vegas
- New Systems : Enjoy new additions to Fallout: Special melee combat moves have been added to bring new meaning to the phrase "up close and personal"
- An Arsenal of Shiny New Guns : With double the amount of weapons found in Fallout 3, you'll have more than enough new and exciting ways to deal with the threats of the wasteland and the locals
- Let it Ride : In a huge, open world with unlimited options you can see the sights, choose sides, or go it alone. Peacemaker or Hard Case, House Rules, or the Wild Card, it's all in how you play the game
- Attendees: No Obsidian developer is named in the accessible coverage.
- Timing: No visit date is confirmed, and the invitation’s own publication date could not be checked against the full article.
- Acceptance: The reporting does not say the invitation was taken up in any particular form, beyond the set visit the headline describes.
- Production role: Nothing in the coverage says Obsidian designed, consulted on, or contributed to the Season 2 set or the show.
- Future projects: The invitation does not indicate a new New Vegas game, a sequel, or any new Obsidian Fallout project.
Some fan commentary has framed the invitation as a sign of goodwill between Bethesda and Obsidian after years of speculation about tension between the two studios. The reporting supports the gesture itself. It does not, by itself, settle broader claims about how the two teams have related to each other.
How to read the claim accurately
The three questions readers typically ask have different answers:
Rank #3
- Feel the Heat in New Vegas: Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands from the small towns dotting the Mojave Wasteland to the bright lights of the New Vegas strip

| Question | Answer supported by the reporting | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Did Todd Howard invite Obsidian to the Season 2 set? | Yes, according to PC Gamer, with GameSpot reporting the same visit. | Reported, attributed to Howard |
| Why would Obsidian visit? | The set recreates New Vegas, the location from Obsidian’s game, so the visit is tied to that connection. | Inferred from the game link; not stated as a formal purpose |
| Did Obsidian help make Fallout Season 2? | Not supported by the reporting. | Not stated in the sources |
The distinction matters because the headline uses the phrase “up close.” That wording matches the reported visit. It does not indicate that Obsidian had creative input into the set.

The most useful lens here is the gap between the game and the television version of the same place. Players know New Vegas from Fallout: New Vegas, released in 2010 by Obsidian and published by Bethesda Softworks. Howard’s framing is that the location is iconic to players, and that the production’s job was to match that expectation on a physical stage. That is a point about how a television adaptation handles a location players already know, not a judgment on either the game or the show.

Scope and what remains open
The story is best read as a confirmed gesture from Bethesda’s leadership toward the studio behind the New Vegas game, placed inside a production that Howard describes as built largely by hand. The open questions are the ones the reporting leaves unanswered: who visited, when, and what, if anything, came of the visit beyond seeing the set. Until a fuller account appears, the accurate position is that the invitation and visit are reported, while the details behind them are not.
Fallout Season 2 is available through the streaming service that carries the series in each market, and availability varies by territory, so check your local listing before watching the New Vegas episodes.
The gap between a reported invitation and a documented visit is also where careful readers should stop. Credit for the set belongs to the production team Howard named, and the invitation tells us about the relationship between the two studios, not about who built what.
