Wordle #1708 was the New York Times puzzle dated Saturday, February 21, 2026. If you want to solve it yourself, use the clues below first. The answer is revealed further down, under a spoiler warning.

Work through these in order. Stop as soon as you have the word.

  1. Length: The answer has five letters.
  2. First letter: It starts with A.
  3. Meaning: It describes being alert or no longer asleep. Synonyms that fit the sense are “stir” and “alert.”
  4. Vowels: It contains three vowels.

The repeated-letter hint is disputed

Some coverage of this puzzle says the answer has no repeated letters. That claim cannot be right for AWAKE: the word is spelled A-W-A-K-E, so the letter A appears twice. Parade’s report of double letters matches the spelling. Treat any “no repeated letters” hint as an error rather than a clue.

Why the answer fits the clues

AWAKE begins with A, has five letters, contains three vowels (A, A, E), and means alert or not asleep. Every hint in the ladder above matches the same word.
