What happened to Toby Keith?
Keith, the country singer, announced on June 12, 2022, that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer the previous fall. He said he had spent six months receiving chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. His statement did not identify a cancer stage or specify the treatment regimens.

At the time, Keith wrote, “So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.” He said he planned to spend time with his family. These were his own descriptions of his condition and plans, not a physician’s clinical assessment.

June: He described a smaller tumor
In a June 2023 interview with The Oklahoman, Keith said his tumor had shrunk by a third. He added that he expected it might be smaller at his next check and said only one tumor had shown up. This was Keith’s account of his own scans and expectations; it was not a general medical finding or a guarantee of what would happen next.

September: He described good days and bad days
At the People’s Choice Country Awards in September 2023, Keith told Extra, “I feel pretty good. You have good days and bad days.” He also spoke about moving through “dark hallways” and credited his faith. His comments conveyed how he was feeling then; they did not announce that the cancer was gone or that he was in remission.
When did Toby Keith die?
Keith died on February 5, 2024, after battling cancer. His official website posted the family’s announcement on February 6. The public statements described above are historical updates from 2022 and 2023, not a current recovery report.

What is known about his cancer treatment—and what is not?
Keith publicly named stomach cancer and said he had received chemotherapy, radiation and surgery over six months. The public accounts cited here do not provide his clinical record, stage, exact treatment regimen or a basis for inferring a prognosis.
