On February 10, 2024, the Covel family said it would hold “a private funeral service for family, band and crew only in mid-February.” The same statement said that “a memorial service to honor Toby will be announced only on Toby’s socials shortly.”

When and where was the memorial service?

His official website said he “passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family” and that he “fought his fight with grace and courage.” The statement also asked the public to respect his family’s privacy. How the later “American Icon” tribute fits in
A July 29, 2024 Nashville concert titled Toby Keith: American Icon was later announced for NBC broadcast on August 28, 2024. It was a separate tribute event, not confirmation of the private funeral’s arrangements or proof that it was the memorial service referenced in February.

Where to direct flowers or memorial donations
The family asked supporters to give in lieu of flowers to the Toby Keith Foundation to support OK Kids Korral, which provides lodging and support for pediatric-cancer patients and their families.

The foundation reported on June 10, 2024, that its 2024 event raised more than $1.6 million and that cumulative fundraising since the event began was just under $20 million.
