That is not confirmation of a new Bosch-led series: Welliver said in a July 2026 interview that he had completed three episodes of Ballard’s second season, while a standalone Bosch film remains unapproved.
Where Bosch is returning
Harry Bosch will appear in Ballard, the Prime Video crime series centered on detective Renée Ballard. Amazon describes the show as a Bosch spinoff and says Bosch, played by Welliver, helps Ballard investigate cold cases. Amazon’s Ballard page identifies it as streaming on Prime Video. Regional availability can vary.
The shift is in the series’ focus: Bosch carries the franchise connection, but Ballard is the lead investigator and the show’s central character.
What is confirmed about Season 2
In an interview reported by TechRadar on July 7, 2026, Welliver said he had completed three episodes of Ballard Season 2. That is interview reporting about his participation, not a direct Prime Video announcement. The sources confirming his comments do not establish a premiere date, so there is no release date to report here. Read the TechRadar interview report.

Does this mean a new Bosch series or film?
No new Bosch-led season is established
Welliver’s return is in the Ballard spinoff. Amazon described Bosch: Legacy Season 3 as the show’s final season; the sources cited here do not announce another season of Bosch or Bosch: Legacy. Amazon’s Bosch: Legacy Season 3 coverage names Desert Star and The Black Ice among its source novels.
A standalone film is only a possibility
In the same interview, Welliver said: “We’ve got some ideas about a possible standalone film. We’ve not seen the end of Harry Bosch, that’s for sure… I will say that much.” The remark describes an idea under discussion, not a greenlight or a production announcement.

How the Bosch screen story reached Ballard
- 2015: Amazon announced a second season of Bosch and described the original show as based on Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels. That is historical franchise context, not a current renewal. Amazon’s 2015 announcement.
- 2025: Amazon promoted the third and final season of Bosch: Legacy, linking the adaptation to Connelly novels including Desert Star and The Black Ice. Amazon’s Season 3 coverage.
- July 9, 2025: Amazon’s Ballard page described the series as a Bosch spinoff and said it was streaming on Prime Video.
- July 7, 2026: TechRadar reported Welliver’s comments about filming three Ballard Season 2 episodes and ideas for a possible film.
For viewers who want more Bosch
The most direct companion to the screen franchise is Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch book series. Amazon identifies the novels as source material for the television adaptations; Desert Star and The Black Ice are among the books named in its coverage. The screen story remains distinct from the novels, so a book need not be read to follow Bosch’s appearance in Ballard.
