Tiny Vinyl is a four-inch, two-sided record made for short releases and collecting: each side holds one song of up to four minutes. It is designed to play at 33⅓ RPM on a manual turntable, but the tonearm must reach the grooves near the center spindle. You do not need the dedicated Tiny Vinyl Player.
What is Tiny Vinyl?
Tiny Vinyl is a traditionally pressed, four-inch record with one song on each side. A supplier deck revised in 2025 describes the format as playing at 33⅓ RPM, with a maximum of four minutes per side; the supplier’s offering includes colored vinyl, a gatefold jacket and an inner sleeve. A to Z Media’s Tiny Vinyl deck lists those specifications and a 500-unit minimum for its own production offering.
That short capacity makes the format better suited to singles, B-sides and fan merchandise than to albums. It is a physical, playable collectible for music releases built around individual tracks rather than a replacement for a full-size LP.
Will Tiny Vinyl play on a regular record player?
Often, but not on every turntable. Tiny Vinyl is designed for 33⅓ RPM manual turntables. Because the disc is small, the tonearm needs to reach the grooves close to the center spindle; some automatic turntables may also need auto-return disabled. Check your turntable’s manual and the record player’s setup before buying.

USA TODAY reports that the format’s makers identify the Victrola Eastwood II, Fluance RT80, Victrola Wave and Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT as compatible examples. These are examples, not a guarantee for every configuration or model revision. A full-size 33⅓ RPM turntable that can physically reach the record’s playing area may work, but verify tonearm reach and auto-return behavior for your specific setup.
Do you need the Tiny Vinyl Player to play Tiny Vinyl records?
No. The dedicated player is an optional purpose-built way to play the records; compatible manual turntables are another option. The dedicated device may appeal if you want a compact, format-specific setup rather than adjusting an existing turntable.

What Hi-Fi reported that the dedicated player has built-in speakers and Bluetooth, but check current product details before purchase because features and availability can change. What Hi-Fi’s July 2026 report also relayed the company’s milestone of more than one million records pressed in roughly a year; that is a company-reported figure, not audited sales data.
How many songs fit on a Tiny Vinyl?
The 2025-revised A to Z Media deck specifies one song per side and up to four minutes per side, so the standard format allows two short tracks totaling up to eight minutes. The actual playable time depends on the release; the four-minute figure is a maximum, not a promise that every record uses the full capacity.

How did Tiny Vinyl begin, and how is it different from 3-inch records?
According to Ars Technica’s interview with the founders, the idea began in a 2023 discussion about a record small enough to fit in a collectible figure box. Prototype samples emerged in May 2024, and the first release was delivered to country musician Daniel Donato in July 2024.
The founders described Tiny Vinyl as a two-sided record intended to play on a standard turntable. Ars contrasted it with Record Store Day’s revival of a 3-inch format made with Crosley, which the article describes as a one-sided product designed for miniature players. That distinction describes the products discussed in the interview; it should not be taken to mean every 3-inch record format uses the same design.

Who is Tiny Vinyl for?
The format makes most sense for listeners who want a small, playable souvenir, artists releasing singles, and fans who collect tour or artist merchandise. It can turn a short release into a physical object without requiring an album’s worth of music. Ars reported that The Band Loula sold its records for $15 at a tour merch booth and used two singles because the band did not yet have an album; that is one band’s example, not a typical price or sales result.
There is a production-scale trade-off for independent artists. A to Z Media’s deck lists a 500-unit minimum for its own offering. Ars quoted Powertone Records owner Carl Zenobi saying the artists he works with would look at roughly 100–300 units, and that at 2,000 units a full LP might make more sense. Those are one supplier’s terms and one label owner’s view, not universal rules for every pressing arrangement.

Where can you buy Tiny Vinyl records and accessories?
In the United States, September 2026 coverage says records retail for $14.99 and are available at Target and directly through exclusive artist and record-label partners. USA TODAY also reported that some titles may be sold through artist stores, live shows and select retailers. Catalog and availability vary by release and can change.

What the small format does—and does not—mean
A September 2026 company announcement says a Tiny Vinyl record uses about one-tenth the material of a standard 12-inch record. That is the company’s material-use claim, not an independent lifecycle assessment, so it does not by itself establish a broader environmental advantage. The same announcement attributes a figure of more than 50 million vinyl units sold annually in the United States to Billboard, RIAA and Luminate; the underlying dataset is not independently verified here.
