The $634 million fantasy movie starring Timothée Chalamet is Wonka (2023), Paul King’s musical origin story about the young chocolatier. But the recent Netflix chart results behind the “soars on Netflix” claim belong to Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, a reality competition series—not the film. Netflix’s published rankings do not establish that Wonka itself is currently trending there.
Which Timothée Chalamet movie made $634 million?
It is Wonka, the 2023 fantasy musical directed by Paul King. Chalamet plays a young Willy Wonka setting out to build a chocolate business. Netflix’s synopsis describes him working with an orphan named Noodle while trying to evade a confectionery crime syndicate. The film also stars Olivia Colman and Hugh Grant, according to Netflix’s title listing.

Box Office Mojo lists the film’s worldwide theatrical gross at $634,502,312, comprising $218,402,312 domestic and $416,100,000 international. The figures are listed by Box Office Mojo and accessed in 2026.
| Box office measure | Amount listed |
|---|---|
| Worldwide | $634,502,312 |
| Domestic | $218,402,312 |
| International | $416,100,000 |
The worldwide total is a theatrical gross, not the studio’s take-home revenue or a measure of profit. Box Office Mojo also lists a $125 million production budget, but that figure alone cannot establish profitability: marketing costs, distribution terms, and other expenses are not accounted for in the gross.

Is Wonka soaring on Netflix?
The available Netflix chart evidence does not show that the 2023 film is soaring or currently charting. It shows strong viewing for a separate title in the same fictional universe: Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, a reality competition series.
Netflix’s weekly Top 10 reporting placed the series at No. 2 on its English-language TV list with 4.6 million views for September 21–27, 2026. The following week, September 28–October 4, it ranked No. 4 with 4.3 million views. Those rankings and view figures are for the series, not Chalamet’s film.

Wonka draws on the character and world of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the 1964 novel Netflix identifies as inspiration for the Wonka universe. Rather than retelling the novel’s central factory visit, the film follows Wonka before the chocolate factory becomes famous.
