Tim Robinson plays Craig, a socially awkward suburban dad whose attempt to befriend his charismatic new neighbor, Austin (Paul Rudd), becomes the engine of A24’s comedy Friendship. The film’s first trailer was reported on February 11, 2025, and the story’s official premise promises that Craig’s pursuit of an adult male friend threatens to upend both men’s lives.
What the first ‘Friendship’ trailer sets up
Friendship is a 2025 A24 film written and directed by Andrew DeYoung. A24’s synopsis centers on Craig, a suburban dad who “falls hard for his charismatic new neighbor” as his efforts to make an adult male friend threaten to ruin both their lives. That premise puts the contrast between Robinson’s awkward Craig and Rudd’s magnetic Austin at the heart of the comedy.

The FADER and Pitchfork both published first-trailer coverage on February 11, 2025. The FADER describes the friendship spiraling after an unexpected rejection; Pitchfork identifies the movie as DeYoung’s feature directorial debut and notes additional cast members Josh Segarra and Billy Bryk. Those reports establish the trailer announcement and broad setup, rather than a verified scene-by-scene account.

There is a source-attributed runtime discrepancy: Paramount Global Content lists 90 minutes, while the Associated Press review published May 7, 2025 gives 100 minutes. The available listings do not reconcile those figures.
What kind of comedy is it?
The official synopsis frames the plot around Craig’s attempt to make an adult male friend. The Associated Press describes the finished film as a satire of modern masculinity and male loneliness that moves into horror and surrealism, and reports an R rating for “language and some drug content.” That description signals a darker, stranger edge than the neighbor-friendship premise alone might suggest.
