Tim Cook wore a custom Nike Air Max 1 ’86 at Apple’s May 7, 2024 Let Loose event. Its tongue read “Made on iPad,” and its sketch-like details were reported as nods to Apple Pencil Pro. Contemporary coverage described the pair as a one-off made for Cook, not a shoe offered for public sale.
What shoes did Tim Cook wear?
They were custom Nike Air Max 1 ’86 sneakers, worn as Cook presented Apple’s May 7, 2024 Let Loose event. The event introduced a refreshed iPad lineup, including the M4 iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro. Reports connected the shoe’s design to that iPad announcement. 9to5Mac’s event-day report identifies the model and the “Made on iPad” wording; MacStories’ event recap also noted the shoes.
What did the custom design look like?
Contemporary descriptions report a white or off-white base, a speckled mudguard, and colorful, sketch-like marks around the Swoosh. The tongue carried the words “Made on iPad.” One account described decorative stitching around the Swoosh and heel as resembling sketch lines, linking the look to Apple Pencil Pro. Complex’s coverage describes the visible details and characterizes the pair as one-of-one.
These are reported design details, not a first-hand examination of the sneakers. No direct statement from Cook, Apple, Nike, or a named designer explaining the design was identified in contemporaneous coverage.

Could you buy the “Made on iPad” shoes?
Contemporary reports described Cook’s pair as one-of-one and said it would not be sold publicly. There is no verified public release of this custom version, so a listing for a regular Air Max 1 ’86 should not be mistaken for Cook’s shoe: the reported “Made on iPad” tongue, custom marks, and stitching do not establish a retail colorway.
How the shoes fit the Let Loose event
The shoes made a small visual connection to the event’s iPad and Apple Pencil announcements: the tongue’s wording referenced iPad, while the sketch-like decoration was described as Pencil-inspired. The available event coverage supports that connection, but does not establish an official Nike or Apple product collaboration or release.
