PerthNow reported on 16 May 2025 that a TikTok user identified as Monica, @succulentaddict8, apologized after a video criticizing people weighing 200 pounds (90 kg) for attending Pilates or teaching it drew backlash. In the apology, Monica said her Pilates membership had been revoked and she had been told not to return to work. The report did not include an employer statement or independently confirm whether she was formally dismissed.
What Monica said in the Pilates video
PerthNow reproduced remarks from a since-deleted TikTok video in which Monica said: “This may be a hot take for some people but if you’re 200 pounds (90kg), you shouldn’t be in a Pilates class.” The report also quoted her saying: “And you shouldn’t be allowed to be a Pilates instructor if you have a gut and you’re fat.”
The 200-pound (90 kg) figure was part of Monica’s reported wording, not a health threshold or evidence-based restriction on who can participate in Pilates. PerthNow said the clip had been viewed more than 1.4 million times; that is the publication’s reported count, not an independently verified platform metric. PerthNow’s report is the source for the quotes and view figure.
What Monica said in her apology—and about work
PerthNow reported that Monica later posted a tearful apology, which was also subsequently deleted. It quoted her saying: “I wanted to come on here and apologise for my last few videos, they were nasty.” She also referred to “some insecurities in me and some self-hate.”

On the consequences, the report quoted Monica: “But my (pilates) membership was revoked and I was told not to go back to work.” That statement is the basis for headlines about losing her job. The report did not identify an employer response, establish the employer’s reasoning, or confirm that a formal termination took place; the precise employment outcome therefore remains unverified.
How Sophie Cairns responded
PerthNow said TikToker Sophie Cairns responded with a video describing Pilates as inclusive and accessible. The report quoted Cairns: “The core principles, ethos of Pilates is inclusivity and accessibility, therefore Pilates is a practice that anyone can do.”
