Tiffany Pollard—known to viewers as “New York”—was rejected by Flavor Flav at the end of both seasons of Flavor of Love in which she competed. In a March 2007 interview, she said he had “left me for a second time,” but described their relationship afterward as a casual friendship and said she had moved on. The public record explains the televised story and Pollard’s account at the time; it does not establish every private feeling between them.
What happened between Tiffany Pollard and Flavor Flav?
Pollard competed for Flav’s affection on the first two seasons of Flavor of Love. The relationship breakdown viewers saw was a pair of televised rejections: Flav chose Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander over Pollard in season one, and Pollard returned to compete in season two, only to be rejected again.

Jezebel’s 2020 retrospective describes Pollard’s emotional departure after the first-season finale. The second rejection became the subject of Pollard’s own comments to TV Guide on March 5, 2007. She said, “he left me for a second time,” and spoke about needing to heal. Those statements describe her perspective on the show’s outcome, rather than independently establishing the details of a private romance.
How Pollard described their relationship after the second rejection
In the same 2007 interview, Pollard said the relationship between her and Flav had become “a light and airy friendship.” She summed up the change by saying, “There’s definitely a different type of friendship now.” She also said, “I felt bad for me, you know, but I can definitely stand here today and say I’m over that,” referring to the second-season rejection.

These were Pollard’s public comments at that point in time. They support describing their post-show connection as a casual friendship in her account, but they do not prove what either person privately felt or how the relationship may have changed later.
How I Love New York was a different relationship story
Pollard’s next dating-show arc was separate from her competition for Flav. In I Love New York, she was the lead choosing among suitors rather than a contestant seeking someone else’s choice. In the first-season finale, she selected Patrick “Tango” Hunter, who proposed on camera. CBS reported the televised proposal; a later retrospective says Tango ended the relationship at the reunion.

| Show | Who was choosing? | On-screen outcome | Timing and later account |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flavor of Love, season one | Flavor Flav chose among contestants, including Pollard. | Flav chose Hoopz; Pollard was rejected at the finale. | Season aired in 2006. Pollard later recalled the rejection in interviews. |
| Flavor of Love, season two | Flavor Flav again chose among contestants; Pollard returned. | Pollard was rejected again. | Season aired in 2006–07. In March 2007, Pollard said she had moved on and described their friendship as casual. |
| I Love New York, season one | Pollard led the show and selected among suitors. | She chose Tango, who proposed on camera; a later retrospective says they split at the reunion. | The finale was reported in April 2007. It was a separate arc, not a continuation of her story with Flav. |
How Pollard later remembered competing on the show
In a 2020 interview with Jezebel, Pollard recalled that competing on Flavor of Love felt like “frantic panic mode.” Reflecting on her move into the lead role on I Love New York, she said, “When I did I Love New York and I was now in the driver’s seat, it felt so good.” The contrast captures how she described the different experience of seeking Flav’s approval and later making the choices herself.
Pollard has also discussed leaning into a persona for the cameras. That context matters when interpreting reality television: what viewers watched was an edited show, not a complete record of a private relationship. Her later recollections help explain her experience, but do not turn the televised story into proof of every motive or feeling involved. Vogue’s 2020 interview likewise discusses her public persona and career.
