Thomas Jane is set to star in Celestia, a science-fiction thriller in which a father fights to protect his daughter after their spacecraft crashes on a remote planet. The project announcement named Joel Souza as director and Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert as writers.
What is Thomas Jane’s new sci-fi movie?
Celestia is the title of the announced film. Jane is to play Graham, a devoted but troubled father whose spacecraft crashes on a remote planet. His daughter remains aboard the deteriorating craft as he searches the alien landscape for a way to escape. Signs that the pair may have been expected there raise a larger mystery beyond their immediate fight to survive.
The premise and casting were reported in a February 12, 2026 announcement. They describe a project in development, not a film confirmed as completed or released.
Who is making Celestia?
- Thomas Jane: Graham, the father at the center of the story.
- Joel Souza: Director.
- Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert: Screenwriters.
- Motus Studios: Reported producer, associated with Emanuele Moretti.
Jane described the project as “haunting, intimate, grounded sci-fi with a twist” and said Souza was one of his favorite directors for delivering gritty characters with heart.

What does “first sci-fi return” mean?
The headline connects Jane with The Expanse and presents Celestia as his first sci-fi return. The available reporting does not establish a complete filmography or identify the precise reference point for the “four years later” interval, so that timing should be treated as headline framing rather than a fully verified career chronology.

No start date had been set in the February 12, 2026 announcement. At that time, Motus Studios was presenting the project for pre-sales at the European Film Market in Berlin. Those are details reported at announcement, not confirmation of its current production status or a release schedule.
