5 Seconds of Summer has not broken up. Calum Hood said in July 2025 that the band was “not over” and “quite thriving,” and all four members discussed staying together and continuing to make music in an October interview. The latest dated evidence here is a Universal Music Canada notice reporting a new group release on August 14, 2026. That documents recent activity, not a guarantee about the band’s future.
Why fans wondered if 5SOS was breaking up
Questions surfaced as band members released solo work. In a July 3, 2025 report, Calum Hood acknowledged being asked, “Is the band OK?” He replied that the band was great and said, “Emphatically, 5SOS is not over and actually, quite thriving.” Suggest reported Hood’s comments; the page is a report quoting him rather than a primary interview transcript.

On October 31, 2025, ABC News Australia interviewed Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin about how they stayed together and continued making music more than a decade after forming. In a separate Numéro Netherlands interview, Clifford said solo projects helped the members return to group work: “We all want to keep doing it together.” The page displays March 12 but does not identify a publication year.

What “The Worst” refers to
The headline nods to NME’s historical “Worst Band in the World” designation, which NME says it gave 5SOS three years in a row. It was a media label, not an objective measurement of the band’s quality or a current consensus. A November 2025 NME interview revisited how the label affected the members when they were teenagers and how their feelings about public labels changed as they matured.
That “Worst Band” label is distinct from the word “boyband.” In a November 2025 Official Charts Company interview, Michael Clifford said the group had learned to take ownership of the term rather than feel insulted by it: “It doesn’t matter to us if you call us a boyband or not.”

What the group’s scale figures do—and don’t—show
Universal Music Canada’s 2025 artist backgrounder reported more than 18 million albums sold, more than six million tickets moved worldwide, over 10 billion streams, and three Billboard 200 number-one debuts for 5SOS. These are figures attributed to the label’s backgrounder, not independently audited totals. They help describe the group’s commercial reach, but they do not determine its current status or future plans. The label’s November 2025 album notice identifies Everyone’s A Star! as the band’s sixth full-length studio album.
