Kristin Chenoweth criticized One Million Moms’ campaign against the 2024 film Wicked in an Instagram comment reported in December 2024. The response came after the movie’s release—not as a new boycott announcement—and Chenoweth was speaking as Broadway’s original Glinda, not as a cast member of the film.
What did Kristin Chenoweth say about the Wicked boycott?
Chenoweth responded to an Instagram post about One Million Moms’ campaign. Out transcribed her comment as: “It’s called entertainment. Artistry. I am a Christian woman [who] originated the role of Glinda and all the silliness that these women spew out of hate. No no no.” Out also reported her saying, “I try to love ’em anyways.” (Out, Dec. 12, 2024)
The bracketed “[who]” is part of Out’s published transcription; reports render that phrase differently. The original Instagram post was not independently verified, so the wording above should be understood as Out’s transcription rather than a confirmed verbatim transcript.
What did One Million Moms say about Wicked?
One Million Moms campaigned against the film, saying it contained objectionable material and promoted what the group called an LGBTQ agenda. Those are the organization’s advocacy claims, not an official content classification or an independently established description of the film. Salon’s Dec. 16, 2024 report describes the campaign and Chenoweth’s response.

When did the campaign and response happen?
The campaign and Chenoweth’s comment were reported in December 2024, after the film’s release. Contemporary coverage appeared on Dec. 12 from Out, Dec. 16 from Salon, and Dec. 21 from LGBTQ Nation. A later article repeating the headline also treated the episode as historical, not as a newly launched boycott.
Was Chenoweth Glinda in the movie?
No. Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda—then called Galinda—in the Broadway production. Ariana Grande played Glinda in the 2024 film. Chenoweth’s connection is to the stage role, not the movie’s cast; LGBTQ Nation’s coverage identifies her as the original Glinda.

What does the “few hundred” remark mean?
Chenoweth reportedly added “few hundred. Maybe” while responding to the campaign. That was her remark, not a verified count of One Million Moms’ membership. The cited reports do not establish the group’s membership size or show that the campaign caused a particular box-office result.
