Tom Selleck’s final scene as Frank Reagan was a family dinner—the same kind of scene he filmed first for Blue Bloods. He had finished his own work a few days before the cast’s final filming day, but returned to watch his colleagues say goodbye. In a TV Insider interview published October 3, 2024, Selleck remembered tears, hugs and a farewell he did not want to miss.
What was Tom Selleck’s last Blue Bloods scene?
Selleck said his last scene was a Reagan family dinner. It was a fitting bookend: the dinner was also the first scene he filmed for the series. As he put it, “My last scene was ironically family dinner; that was also the first scene I shot on the show 15 years ago!”
The scene brought the Reagan family together and included Erin’s daughter, Nicky, and Danny’s older son, Jack. Selleck had played NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show began in 2010, according to the interview.
Was the final filming emotional?
Yes. Selleck described the atmosphere as openly emotional: “There was crying and there was an enormous amount of hugs.” He recalled cast members speaking and singled out Donnie Wahlberg as deeply affected. He also remembered Bridget Moynahan speaking during the farewell.

Selleck said he had wanted to say Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poem “Love Is Not All.” The interview records that intention, but does not say that he recited the entire poem.
Why did Selleck return for the final day?
Selleck had completed his scenes several days before the rest of the cast wrapped. He flew back from Los Angeles to be present for the final filming day, which TV Insider dates to Thursday, June 20. He watched the last scenes featuring Bridget Moynahan and Steve Schirripa, then Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez.

“It was hard, but I didn’t want to just stay home; I wanted to be there, and I felt an obligation to share the experience,” he told TV Insider. His account distinguishes his own last scene—the family dinner—from the later scenes filmed by other cast members on the production’s final day.
