The White Rabbit means different things in different TikTok posts. The clock-pointing image is usually a joke about urgency, waiting or running out of time. In the later “the rabbit got me” format, it signals that a consequential event has caught up with the creator—often a painful change, but sometimes a positive turning point. The caption and story matter more than the rabbit alone.
How to tell which White Rabbit trend you’re seeing
| Format | Common meaning | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Clock-pointing rabbit image | Impatience, deadlines, lateness or a countdown; sometimes surreal humor | A joke tied to time, waiting or something about to happen |
| “The rabbit got me” personal post | An event or turning point finally arrived or became unavoidable | A first-person story about a change, loss, relationship or other life event |
These are useful ways to read the formats, not official TikTok labels. The personal-story version is often sad, but it can also describe a non-romantic event or a change the creator sees as a rescue.
Where the clock-pointing rabbit image came from
Artist Luz Tapia made the digital image in 2012, using an official image from the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland as a reference. Tapia’s viral picture was her own drawing and painting. The Daily Dot reported that Tapia said the image had no intended symbolic meaning: “There’s no meaning to this sorry! I was practicing using this image as reference. I never claimed I ‘own the character’ but the viral image is my art.” The Daily Dot’s October 16, 2025 account attributes that statement to Tapia’s social post.
The rabbit’s association with time comes naturally from its clock-pointing pose. When TikTok users rediscovered the image in May 2025, early jokes leaned into lateness, waiting and deadlines. The Daily Dot describes a May 14 post by @boxed3k about teachers watching students pack up before class ended; it used “So Fun” by Seven Harris. That may have been an early example, but the article does not establish it as the definitive first use.

What “the rabbit got me” means
By November 2025, a different format had taken hold: creators used “the rabbit got me” to frame a consequential event as something that eventually caught up with them. Know Your Meme’s November 21, 2025 explainer connects the format with “All Roads Lead to Rome,” which often builds toward heartbreak or another painful outcome.
Posts may describe breakups, miscarriage, friendship changes or other losses. But the rabbit does not automatically mean romantic heartbreak: creators have also used the format for parenthood, health, career changes, bereavement, mental health and milestones. Some tell the story as a positive turning point—as if the event that “got” them also helped save them. A luna guide updated January 20, 2026 documents a range of these life-event stories.

Why the meaning changes from post to post
Read both the format and the emotional framing. A clock image paired with a countdown is likely a time joke; a first-person “the rabbit got me” caption usually introduces a story about an event that became unavoidable. That story might be painful, comic or hopeful. The “All Roads Lead to Rome” association adds an idea of inevitability, but creators adapt it rather than follow one fixed script.
- Check the caption: Does it joke about time, or introduce a personal turning point?
- Read the story around the image: The rabbit alone cannot tell you whether the post is about heartbreak.
- Notice the tone: The format can mark loss, a major life change or an outcome the creator sees as positive.
What to consider before making a personal post
The personal-story format can turn private experiences into public content. The luna guide recommends thinking about whether a stressful memory could affect the poster—or a child—later, and avoiding sensitive family details. No one needs to share trauma to participate in a trend. Journaling, talking with someone trusted, creating art, using a private group or keeping a selective video diary can offer ways to reflect without posting everything publicly.
