Lochlan, by contrast, survives a poisoning scare.
Who dies in The White Lotus Season 3 finale?
The central deaths are Rick, Chelsea and Jim Hollinger. Jim’s two bodyguards also die in the shootout, according to TheWrap’s finale recap. The episode’s deaths follow from Rick’s decision to confront Jim and the violence that follows—not from a single accident.
Rick kills Jim, then learns the truth
After returning to the resort from Bangkok, Rick reunites with Chelsea. She urges him to abandon his grievance, but he remains focused on Jim, whom he believes was responsible for his father’s death. In the confrontation, Jim insults Rick’s mother and dismisses his account of his father. Rick takes Jim’s holstered gun and shoots him. Sritala then tells Rick that Jim was his biological father. TheWrap’s episode coverage also recounts the revelation.
Chelsea is killed in the shootout
Jim’s bodyguards pursue Rick and Chelsea. Rick shoots both guards, but Chelsea is hit in the chest and dies in his arms. She is the person struck in the crossfire; the sequence is not simply an accidental shooting of Rick.

Gaitok shoots Rick
As Rick carries Chelsea away, Sritala orders Gaitok to stop him. Gaitok shoots Rick in the back. Rick and Chelsea end up in the water, echoing the image of a body in the water shown in the premiere. Sky’s finale explainer also describes Gaitok’s role in the ending.
Does Lochlan die?
No. Lochlan nearly dies after drinking a shake made in a blender Timothy had used for a poisonous mixture. Timothy had prepared the mixture but stopped his family from drinking it; the blender was not washed before Lochlan later used it. Timothy revives his son. The apparent death is a near-death scare, not another death in the finale, as TheWrap’s recap reports.

Why does Rick’s ending feel like Greek tragedy?
Creator Mike White described the finale’s revenge pattern as “a classic theme of Greek tragedy, or somebody killing the thing that they love while trying to get some revenge,” in an interview covered by TheWrap on April 6, 2025. That framing fits the chain of events: Rick’s pursuit of revenge leads to Jim’s death, Chelsea’s death and his own.
The episode title, “Amor Fati,” means “love of fate.” Sky’s explainer notes that Chelsea uses the phrase for embracing fate as it comes. Her belief that she and Rick are bound together by fate becomes painfully literal in the ending. Fatalism and karma are possible readings of the story, but they are interpretations rather than a definitive explanation supplied by White.

What happens to Belinda and the Ratliffs?
Belinda secures a five-million-dollar payment from Greg, according to TheWrap’s finale coverage. That is a secondary resolution, separate from the deaths. The Ratliff family’s financial future remains unsettled when the season ends.
