Which old friends return in season three?
The strongest reading of “old friends” is the original Emond’s Field circle, with season-three coverage highlighting Rand, Mat and Perrin together. A first-look report published January 22, 2025, singled out an image of the three in a casual setting under the heading “Old Friends.” The image points to their reunion; it does not, by itself, establish what happens in the scene. ComicBook.com’s first-look report also identifies the series as an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s novels.

Why does Perrin’s return to the Two Rivers matter?
Actor Marcus Rutherford said Perrin returns to the Two Rivers in season three. In a February 26, 2025 interview, he described the Emond’s Field friends as people thrust into a journey they did not choose and dragged from home. That shared experience gives them a particular understanding of the toll each has endured—something Perrin’s homecoming brings back into view. The Gizmodo/io9 cast interview frames the bond through the characters’ common past, rather than simply their familiarity with one another.
What does Mat’s reunion with Perrin reveal?
The same interview describes Mat and Perrin, lifelong friends, together at the start of the season, sharing a drink. Dónal Finn, who plays Mat, presents the character as trying to support and bolster his friends while carrying his own pain and grief associated with the Horn of Valere. That account makes the reunion more than a return to banter: Mat is trying to be there for others even as he has burdens of his own.

Which other relationships are being repaired?
Lan and Moiraine
Daniel Henney said Lan and Moiraine are back together and need one another as they face what is happening to Rand. Henney’s explanation connects their renewed bond to the danger around Rand: “They’re back together, and they have to be, because what’s in front of Rand [is] sort of devolving and dealing with the corruption and what’s going on inside of him. So they have to be at their strongest right now.”
Moiraine and Siuan
Moiraine’s relationship with Siuan remains fractured after season two and still needs repair, according to the interview. It is a different kind of old bond from the Emond’s Field friendships: not a shared homecoming or easy reunion, but a relationship with unfinished mending.
