Principal cast and characters
This guide covers the principal cast and sourced youth-team roles; it is not a complete cast list. Actor-to-character credits are drawn from Fandango and supplementary film listings. Where those listings identify a role but do not provide a fuller biography, the guide does not infer one.

Who plays the youth-team characters?
The film listings identify these performers as playing members of the youth team. They do not provide enough detail to reliably assign each player a personality, football position or separate subplot.
| Actor | Youth-team character |
|---|---|
| Jonigan Booth | Tre |
| Adan James Carrillo | Tony |
| Kylah Davila | Ghost |
| Caleb Dixon | Dwayne |
| Alexander Michael Gordon | Gary |
| Shamori Washington | Bale |
Adan James Carrillo’s surname appears as “Carillo” in some listings; that spelling variation does not indicate a different performer. Fandango’s principal credits and IMDb’s wider film credits show different amounts of the ensemble, and IMDb notes that its full cast order is awaiting verification.

How the characters connect to the story
Jaycen’s community-service assignment sends him back to Long Beach to coach a struggling youth football team. At first, he sees the job as a route to a better public image. The Associated Press describes the deeper arc as a return to his first love of football and a renewed connection to community and family. Cherise, played by Tika Sumpter, is Jaycen’s former girlfriend.
The film draws on Snoop Dogg’s real-life youth-football involvement. The Associated Press reported that it was inspired by his experience with the Snoop Youth Football League, which he founded more than a decade before the AP report. That background is inspiration, not evidence that the fictional team or its characters directly represent real players.
What the cast has said about the film
These comments are from the Associated Press report, not lines of dialogue from the movie:
- Snoop Dogg, actor and producer, said of the characters: “Everybody has their own unique personalities. Everybody has their own story.”
- Tika Sumpter, who plays Cherise, said: “Family brings you back to life.”
- Caleb Dixon, who plays Dwayne, said: “Don’t forget about where you came from.”
- Director Charles Stone III described the story beneath the comedy: “As long as there’s an emotional story underneath the bells and whistles of cussing, then that works.”
Release date and viewing
Fandango lists The Underdoggs as released on January 26, 2024. Prime Video has a title listing, but streaming availability and access terms depend on territory and can change; check Prime Video in your region before relying on it for viewing.
The Associated Press characterizes the film as R-rated and reports adult language and a drinking scene, so it should not be assumed to be a child-oriented sports comedy.
